Re: Roushinator's 72 C10 Stepside Restore/Build

looking good. I cant tell for sure, But it looks like the motor is sitting on old I6 perches. This pushes it back and can cause fitment issues with headers and make the Dist real tight to the firewall. A set of v-8 perches in the foward holes will correct that. Some leave it alone and like the weight moved further back. Something to look into.

Re: Roushinator's 72 C10 Stepside Restore/Build

Got some more work done this weekend.

Plasma cutter was a little disappointing. It is a 110/220 unit. I had it hooked up to 110. I am going to try it on 220 next. Should work better. Oh and we did have it connected to a much larger compressor than the one in the picture.

Thanks. Trying to do something to it every weekend. Trying to build up my skills as i go along. It is a lot of work but after each time i feel like i got something done.

I have a friend that is an expert welder (30+ years) he volunteered to come weld them in. He also is going to fix the rear cross member. I found it has 2" crack in it.

I noticed in your first post on this thread that you were asking about the wheels.

I'd bet money they are Prime brand. Super Shops sold a gillion sets of them in the late 80s in the southern part of the country. I even had a set on my mini truck back in the day.

I don't know if you have the work environment that can support it, but if you have a "dirty" area where you can work, I can tell you an excellent way.

Put the parts on sawhorses and coat them liberally with dollar store cheap oven cleaner. Let it sit 15 minutes or so then respray it with another coat. After another few minutes, hose it off with a garden hose. On real nasty stuff like that rearend, you will probably need to let it dry and repeat the oven cleaner deal again. Perhaps a few times, but it will get it clean. This method is cheap and easy, as long as you have patience to walk by it every so often and spray it again and wait for the chemical to do the work for you.

Great progress, I am enjoying the frame and suspension work being that my own is requiring a ton of work to make right. I am looking forward to seeing the finished rolling chassis.

Re: Roushinator's 72 C10 Stepside Restore/Build

Did not rebuild the rear end this weekend. Wanted to wait until my rear brakes came in. I did however get a lot of work done...

Bolted new ECE rear cross member in today.

Old/bent crossmember compared to new ECE crossmember

Drilled holes and bolted in the C Notch kit....

You've accomplished a crapton of work. You're about to make the turn where things get more fun.

What route did you decide to go on the cab? Soda blast or ? What's the plan on the front suspension?

Keep up the good work.

Re: Roushinator's 72 C10 Stepside Restore/Build

I am not sure about the cab just yet.... Once i get all this done i can roll in the cab and start digging into it again.

For the front suspension i have CPP tubular upper and lower control arms.

The axle c notches were stick welded in using 2 different rods. I can't remember the numbers.

Looks like 7018 rod. Its nice to see someone who still has the skill to burn rods as well as pull the trigger on a MIG gun.

I cant take credit for that. My friend welded it up for me. He is one of the best.
