Re: 71 Cheyenne C10-20 project

First kink to straighten out, a coolant leak. Checked all fluid levels and colors the other day. The radiator was almost plum empty. Filled her up and watched it push out the overflow and the cap. The engine is out of an 89 Z28, or so he said, so best dad and I can figure out is that the water pump is meant for a serpentine system and is reversing flow. So by Monday, NEW:

Water Pump
Rad Cap
Thermostat
Maybe, Thermostat Housing

Re: 71 Cheyenne C30 Project

Personally, I'd still call it a C30 project. It's got parts from a C-10 and C-20. So C30 it stays .

Nah dad and I kinda already figured this out after we looked at the the SPID. This truck was probably a 3/4 ton and a half ton cab was thrown on it and front clip. The cab supports looked like they were in real good shape, too good for an original. For whatever reason, the C30 badge was put on, but oh well. Still an awesome truck and great place to start.

Re: 71 Cheyenne C10-20 project

MAN! I'm itching to work on this truck and do some fine stuff to it before the meet in May. Don't know what all is on the list that I can pull off before then, but I just got my tax returns back and have a chunk of change so. Gonna get to work on her by myself probably, seeing as dad is going to be busy with his as well. Let's just hope I don't screw too much up

Re: 71 Cheyenne C10-20 project

Alright fellers, title is finally here and in my name. It's insured and gets to be brought home from my shop. Though, I may have to get someone to go with me, seeing as when I'm doing 20 it reads 45 and 65 or 70 is 90 to 100. Tried to tell me it was the factory transmission too.

Re: 71 Cheyenne C10-20 project

I wouldn't worry about correcting the speedo. That's simple.

This transmission is way better than the factory tranny would be anyway. It has a shift kit with increased shift points and feels like it was just built. Looks like it was too. I'm kinda glad he missed the mark on that one. The TBI 305 is pretty stout also. Hooker competition headers, contender intake, flowmaster mufflers, paint and body in way better shape than mine. You came out great!

Someone else obviously built this truck. This guy didn't really know what he was selling. Like Scott said before, he was probably just flipping it from someone that got into a jam and needed some money.

I agree with pops. It may not be original, but at least since it's not the drive train seems to be in pretty good shape. Figure out some of the small issues, and you'll be good to go.

Re: 71 Cheyenne C10-20 project

Yeah I was just naming off stuff. Speedo is no big deal. Also the vaccum advance doesn't work and choke is shot. The radiator has a couple pin hole leaks and the surface for the radiator cap has a bend in it and doesn't seal, which has been my big coolant leak. But that's fixed by \/\/\/\/\/

Update: Bought a new 4 core Maxx Radiator yesterday. Dad and I are looking into some brackets to install it, since the brackets I have is for the factory 3 core, but that's pending. Pictures will have to be thrown up by dad, it's at his place for right now.

Re: 71 Cheyenne C10-20 project

Yeah, Doc Love. Pretty cool fella.

Update:Pulled the condenser and dealer air from the truck and got rid of some of the jenky wiring. Little more leg room in 'er now and she can breathe easier.

Also found the newest neato. Poll question, can anyone guess what this is that is plugging off the riser pcv connector?

Well if I knew you were going to start tearing stuff off of it I could have done that yesterday when I was there. Yeah that's right I found your truck, and now I know where it is. How does it feel?

Oh sweet, so now that you've gotten rid of your project you're gonna come over and take out your revenge on my truck by tearing stuff out? Great ...
