Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Ol Blue! weather was stellar this week, been cranking off some big hrs.
but i did manage to get the dually 97% done. prob fri or sat have it cleaned up. had a old '71 econoline when i was 17 or 18, bashed the fenders out a bit & had some old wildcat mud tires on it, nothing like this chev, they were about a couple inches bigger than the stock 15's. there's this place down the valley called S.W.A.T. 4x4, there was a early '80's chev van parked out front sitting on what looked like 44's a couple yrs ago. thing looked totally awesome, pretty much got the whole idea from it |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Ol Blue!
going to try finish this one, then shut down till next winter thought i would just change out the tires & add a funky paintjob, but now i need to narrow the axles, add a bit more lift, and i just can't handle the lift block lift-needs some proper springs pretty plain inside. thinking add a bed, fridge, stove & sink, & some more seats-better seats then them flat ones in it |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
between work & nice weather, van is down to a crawl
the axles i got off my son's toy broke in 50 gajillion pieces, so spent some time waiting for new axles have managed to get a little bit done. 'bout 50 times harder 4bying a van than a truck |

started making bumpers, roof cage, & a ladder to get up to it. have to put my roller fairlead on the f. bumper still why the big bar on the rear bumper?....spare tire. decided to paint rims black too should be priming 'n' painting the body in a day or so |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Ol Blue!
my plans of a black van with green lightning just went down the toilet. more dog damage. dieseldawg must like the taste of decal bonder. gave them another coat before i use them, come out to the garage 20 minutes later & there's green lightning stuck all over diesel's chops. looked everywhere on my 'puter for them, cant find them....must have deleted them, but i did find this old can (price tag says '97) of cool gm menthol green buried in the shop, so i think i'm going to use it instead it's actually lighter, & more sparkly, just could not photo it |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
maybe dawg did me a favor eating my decals. it's not the black/green lightning i orig. envisioned, but this green is starting to grow on me. still photo's darker than it really is. maybe once i spray some clear on it.....

now that it's done, i aint so ticked at diesel for killing my decals, not minding the green, just wish it would photo the real color it actually is.

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
yeah, wouldn't that be cool! had the same though when i seen that chevy at SWAT. dont know if the bank account could handle it though!
still looking for a few pieces for my 72 chev off-road wrecker, but i was down in the crawlspace the other day digging out crap for the wife, & found a couple old broken car bodies. mid '80's camaro (ehhh), another '57 chevy (woo-hoo, already got 5 of 'em), and this.... '68 el camino, nice, i like. got the body, glass, frame, hurtin' paint job, & most of the interior. after the dawg incident with the van i decided not to use the slots, but i think they will look good on here. |

nice, the '70 was always my favorite.
been busy prepping for our holidays, but got some parts ordered for the elco & started making fender flares out of 080 quarter round a hint of the color |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Ol Blue!
yeah, the blue is ol', i bought it yrs ago to repair my cobra ski-boat but sold it before i used it. kinda excited to see what it will look like on the elco. it's the first time i've used it other then some test swabs. like the green van it don't photo well, same thing, bit lighter. did spray the block & t-case with it. got this out of one of the '57's, not sure if it's a 454 or 396. seeing how they came with a three nine six, that's what i'm calling it been spending some time on the body (i usually do them last), wanna see what this blue will look like! |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
sweet! would like to have seen that. got any polaroids or was film not invented yet?....
haven't got a lot done. waiting for my axles & going on holidays this friday, got beer, fishing, quaddin', & beer on the mind, not much else nuthin' real glamourous or exciting, got rid of the 2wd stuff & modified the frame 396 is pretty much done caged the interior up a little bit more color. thinking some black SS stripes for contrast. not sure if i'm going to drill the window & tie the roll bar to the cage |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
I wish I had pics, back then we never thought about pics. My first Polaroid was after high school. Have fun this weekend. My girlfriend and I are planning a few days at my cabin this weekend.

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
yeah, know what you mean, only thing that mattered was cars & girls!
actually going for a week & a couple of days, thanks man. once our house is paid off in 4 more yrs, me & the wife will be looking for a small chunk of vacation prop. out in the bush somewhere, a cabin would be a big bonus! soooo looking forward to it, been clocking big hrs to make up for the lousy winter & cant wait to unwind & just goof off. three more days...... pretty much at a standstill till parts get here & we get back, but i did scratch up some tubular steps for it |
