Re: Saved a rare one!

Paper chase update. The Big Daddy thing is a dead-end. Just talked to the son, This truck spent most of it's life pulling campers and trailers from Gainesville "To the Mountains". His Dad did the modifications himself. He has mountians of paperwork on this thing....not found the title yet but "It's in there somewhere"

Big 6 lug steel wheels and huge tires.
3.07 Posi for highway driving.
Just doesn't sound like its setup too well for hauling. Thats geared pretty high and the big tires would hurt it even more. Also, its a 1/2 ton SWB without heavy springs- not what I'd pull a trailer with.

not saying it wasn't used for that, just not the best choice if it were.

Anyways, I cant wait to hear more of the story and see more pics! Awesome save. At least you have the SPID photographed should you need to remake it.

Thats our race car trailer. We pulled the rear end out from under it IN THE TRAILER. Very tricky but we did it! You'll notice the light bulb is not broken

Why did you have to pull the rear end out of the truck?

Owner wanted to keep the posi. We took a 12 bolt with us to bolt to it but it was a coil spring unit and wouldn't work (my bad). Shoulda brought the Dana 60 with me off my Custom Camper. Had to winch it into the trailer then pull the rear. Amazing what you can do WHEN YOU HAVE TO!

Re: Saved a rare one! UPDATE

This is getting good...just got off the phone with Pat Mauldin, SR VP of Tom Nehl Truck in Jacksonville (the dealership that ordered this truck new). Just so happens that Mr. Mauldin was there in 1970! Wait...it gets better...Mr. Mauldin (Pat) knew Charlie Hughes (the Name on the Protectoplate...boy, I sure am glad I bought that..too bad about the glovebox door though ). Pat also remembers this truck...special order! Charlie loved horses and used this for pulling his horse trailers. Charlie worked for Commercial Carriers as a long haul semi driver...that's where the saddle tank and the fuel filter came from.
Pat is going to try to find all the info he can for us on this truck, said he'll contact the FACTORY (He's a SR VP remember) and see what he can get from them!
I told Pat when we get it done we could come up to the dealership and take some pictures with him and the truck...in front of the dealership of course.
The TRUCK GODS are smiling down upon me my friends!
Reno

Re: Saved a rare one!

If you wish to see the glovebox door in unscribbled condition, you will follow my instructions. Step 1. You will have 72 hours to bring warmth to northern minnesota. That means no more snow! Once this task is complete, you will recieve further instructions...

Re: Saved a rare one!

1. Any glovebox door can pose as the "Holy Grail"
2. 40 below has negative effects on metal and paper
3. Relocate the aftermarket thermometer to the house, in 72 hours it should read 72 degrees unless it is defective

I will have to see the actual SPID before I release the gold shipment.
And be advised.....THE TRUCK GODS ARE WATCHING!

I have assembled my S.P.I.D. Rescue Unit (Special Parts in Distress). You'll notice I have Ground, Sea and Air assets and the Penguin knows his way around the Great White North. I suggest you release the glovebox door before I "Open the Gates of Hell and let loose the Dogs of War"
