Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

If I was going through that much work, I'd used a 292!

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

Hey guys, those pics that greg64 posted are of the Inline 6's that Sissells Automotive builds. That is the 300hp 300ft. lbs. of torque street inline. They also have another one that has I think around 400hp, it's their racing one. I believe the blue one is a 250 and the racing one, the red one, on their site is a 292. I found out about their motors in the June 2005 Hot Rod magazine I have. Here's a link to their site. If you go to the Catalog link and Engines & Components it will take you to those pics.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

You're absolutely right, chevyman. Now I remember (duh). I didn't bother with the 292 pictures because it's just running a stock modified head.

Unfortunately, I believe the run of heads that they did for the 6 are done.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

At some point I'm going to buy a 47-54 panel. I am planing on doing a large CI 6cyl with a turbo on it. My 63 LS1/4L80E set up is a ton of fun and gets the looks with the hood open, but I think opening the hood with a super clean 6cyl and turbo sitting there would really get some people..

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

anyone have pics of a 292 with air conditioning? I am getting ready to put one into my '75 and would like to keep the A/C. I may have to make my own brackets, just need to know what they look like first. Thanks
-Lance
BTW those are ALL great looking engines.

I can't find any pictures, but years ago Classic Trucks did a 292 build-up, which included A/C. They fabbed up their own bracket which located the compressor on the distributor side of the engine up high. They used the bolts at the front of the head (where the ground from the battery connects), and it seems to me that they had to make a notch for the #1 sparkplug.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

I've got two 6's for sale. One with a TH350 and one with Powerglide. Both run - and I have pics. Or just check my photobucket below. In the truck and chevy II albums.

PM me if interested.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

I'm planning on building up the 250 I'm putting in my '64. Eventually I'd like to do some head work(remove head bolt bosses from intake ports, bolt-in lump ports, SBC 1.60 and 1.94 valves, milled for compression), pistons from a 307 SBC for more compression, 268H cam, Offy water-heated 4bbl intake with a 390 Holley, and Stovebolt cast iron headers.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

Soba, I'm liking those carbs and manifold!

MXmaniac, sounds like a great buildup! I can vouch that the Offy manifold and Stovebolt headers are sweet. I'm waiting for Classic Inlines to build up a Chevy head, which is in their plans before getting more serious.

Thanks Soba. I've been on that site before, but it's been quite a while and it's nice to look at those parts again.

Makes me what to work on something really antique to warrant some of those parts.

What I really like the look of (not a Vintage Speed part, per se) is the Stromberg 97s that are really throttle body injection units, not carbs. Looks and EFI!

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

Hey I got a question, I'm looking for a straight Thermostat housing. If you look at the thermostat housing on my 6 (post#59) I need a straight one. Mine has a slight curve to the passengers side. I need on straight out the front. If anyone has one shoot me a PM so I don't further Hijack this thread... Thanks

Here's my L6, that is currently for sale. I bolted up my unused shorty headers since someone bought my full-length headers awhile back...

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines

I don't have any photos of it "yet", but my plan from day one has always been either dual or tri powered carb setup with a split exhaust.

Chevy 350 is cool and all, but I want the old school look of the L6

This NOT mine, but I've always liked the simple clean look of it.To bad its not running multiple Carbs, but its got something I like.
