Re: 1960 Cadillac, Series 62, 2 Door Hardtop

I dunno Doug, the original caps look kissy with wide whites, especially on a black car. I don't know if the '57 caps would have the right look, at least to me.

The '60 I see me building when I get super rich has a set of big Centerline smoothies on it, and is looooooooow. The '60 is my favorite, and has somehow eleuded me. I've had 2 '57 Sevilles, a '58 Seville, 59 Coupe, and a '61 convertible.

Re: 1960 Cadillac, Series 62, 2 Door Hardtop

been buying some things for the Cadillac lately........

let's see, a Viair 444C compressor, check. 5 gallon aluminum Airlift tank, check. SMC 3/8" valves, check. hummmm, I think a certain black Caddy is going on an altitude adjustment!

looks like a build thread is in order?

Doug, how did the generator shop fix your sending unit? And how did you even know you could take it there? Boggles the mind!

Re: 1960 Cadillac, Series 62, 2 Door Hardtop

well..... the old sending unit has a brass strip wire that runs from the rheostat on the unit itself to a isolated nut. that nut then attaches to a wire that runs to the gauge..... and the gauge works off of resistance from that wire to a body ground.

the ONLY thing that was wrong with it was the brass wire strip had cracked. a new sending unit was darn near $100 and shipping was $25, so I thought what the heck.

as for knowing how to marry the brass strip wire back together..... well let's just say I made an A in metallurgy. I knew it needed either spot welded, brazed, or soldered. so I took it to my radiator shop. they said no and to try the alternator shop since they could solder it without heating up the rheostat and possibly distorting it.

so the sending unit was fixed to the tune of 5 bones cash.

I have been called McGyver in the past, and I try to live up to that name daily!!!!

Re: 1960 Cadillac, Series 62, 2 Door Hardtop

I didn't take a lot of pics during the build, since it was a "engineering as I go" project. however, I can give a itemized list of parts, pics, and build details.

let's just say the rear of the car is 4" off the tarmac aired out. *hint hint* the front is going South next week.

oh yeah, just got my new rims in. I'm going for the early 60's custom look. chrome reverses with cone caps. they should liven up the 4" wide whites a crap load!

to be continued.....

pics as promised. finally got her off of jack stands and onto bags. I still need to button up a few things and do a shakedown roadtrip, but other than that, she's almost done.
