Re: LS engine swap info
Is there a way to id a 5.3 motor? I was looking at one yesterday for a friend and back of the block shows both 4.8 and 5.3l. Price was good $500 with harness and pcm.

Re: LS engine swap info
good question.. mine was still in the truck. that how i know.. as for yours.the harness is a little different. I would think if you have the # off the ecm call the dealer and they should be able to tell you.. when in doubt ask.. right

Re: LS engine swap info
I've got a couple of powersteering questions. What thread adapters can be used on the ps box to allow use of the LS hoses? Second, my p/s pump has 3 hoses coming out of it, I know what 2 of them are...any guess on the third? Keep the info coming! I'm about 2 weeks away from jumping knee deep into finishing mine, .

What I found as an easier solution on the whole power steering issue is remove the fitting off the back of your original power steering pump and put it in the power steering pump you have now (the one with the extra return line). By replacing that fitting you can now use your existing/stock power steering hoses with the new LS pump. Might have to tweak/bend just a little. I'll check out the link although in a couple of the links early in my thread I have links to FAQ threads in a couple of places that discuss the different oil pans and their dimensions.

Good info on the 3rd hose. I don't have the old lines and I have all new lines on the new pump, that's why I was trying to go the other way. I'll price some new "old" lines tomorrow and if not to expensive, I'll just do that. R/

Re: LS engine swap info
Sorry I don't have an answer on how to adapt (which I am sure there is some way). I pulled the engine out of my Jimmy so it was the easiest route to just change that fitting. Do you have access to an old pump? If not you will need the fitting out of a pump and the hoses. At that point it might be just as easy to have a local NAPA or? make up a new line for you.

Re: LS engine swap info
thealien I tried NAPA but if you tell them is for power steering they will not make them, I guess is a liablitly thing... what I did is I got for the high pressure side at the rear of the ls pump used a 16mm o-ring adapter to a #6 AN , they I used 2 ft of braided line, then a #6 an adapter from the braided line to the 18mm o-ring adapter at the gear box, and for the return line, I used the original high pressure hose that is a 16mm o-ring that fits on the return from the gear box, I cut the line, flare it and used rubber hose witha clamp,, and capped the 3rd line.. I think it cost me around 50 bucks including the fittings.. since you need 1-18mm to #6 an adapter, 1-16mm to #6 an adapter and 2 feet of the braided hose... hope this helps a little total cost was around 50 or less,,, cant remember

Re: LS engine swap info
Yeah I didn't want to use any AN hose (trying to keep it factory looking) so it was easier to just swap the fitting from my old pump to my new pump and use my stock 72 lines. Cost was $0.00

Re: LS engine swap info
If the fuel rail is the older version, 2003 and older I think, that has the integrated regulator with two ports on the rail (inlet and return), then correct you don't need the Vette filter/regulator.
If it only has one port, then you will need to use the Vette filter/regulator.

LOL, I understand completely! You are good to go with just a regular filter.

Re: LS engine swap info
i dont want to hijack the thread, i probally should just continue on my project thread but i dont think i will get the hits like on this thread..... so do i just run new lines of my current fuel tank on my 84 to the pump to the filter to the rail and then run the return back to the tank?

Re: LS engine swap info
You will need fuel injection rated fuel line, filter, clamps, and of course the fuel pump. Try to use either as much solid line as possible, or stainless braided line. Try to keep FI rated rubber hose to a minimum, as in just connections.
Supply line from the tank, to the filter, then the pump, then to the engine. All 3/8" (-6AN). Return straight from the engine to the tank. 5/16" (-4AN). Do you have two tanks? And if so, do you plan on keeping both operational?

Re: LS engine swap info
my set up was from a van that had hydraboost steering so I had an LT1 PS resevior and that is what I got for the res. I mounted it over next to the windshield wiper fluid res.
Can see it here:

Re: LS engine swap info
Is the VIN stamped on the block anywhere? I can't seem to find it. I'm tTrying to figure out exactly what year my motor is. It's supposed to be an 06, but I just want to make sure prior to ordering my harness.

Re: LS engine swap info
the block year doesnt matter until you get into the 2007 ( GEN IV) year and they changed some sensor locations, If your ordering a harness just tell them if it is DBC or DBW. Correct me if I am wrong but this is what I was told.

Re: LS engine swap info
that is the way I understood it. If the motor and PCM came together and you are 100% sure, that information can be pulled from the PCM.
