Mirror thread

Hi folks! Just bought a '72 custom camper and this is my first post. I have already learned a ton from this forum so thank you. It only has one mirror (driver side) and it doesn't look stock. The passenger side has holes, but no mirror. I am wanting to keep it stock if possible, any idea what mirrors it probably came with based on my SPID?

The mirror in post #3, the standard car type mirror used in '72. Small mirrors may seem odd on a custom camper, but that's the way Chevy did it. Custom Camper option was just a heavy duty suspension package, everything else was up to buyer or salesman to set up correctly for hauling a camper. This explains why so many '67-'72 Chevy pickups are seen with a wide variety of mirrors both GM and period aftermarket.

I'd assume this is the same movement wise, but the convex mirror probably compensates for it to some extent? For 43 bucks I'm willing to find out the hard way, but would love to hear from anyone who has tried these.

x2. If nothing shows on the SPID, it came through with standard mirrors which were the car-type mirrors.

My 1969 C 10 came with R/V mirrors Option 4D29BH ? Like a dope I took them off years ago . Of course , now I can't find them . Sure need a pass side mirror when backing up with a load of limbs at the dump . Just bought a pair from LMC . 38-5879 . Now I gotta drill more holes in my doors . Nice to have this web site to look at other trucks and get advice .

Yes, DF 2 for stainless long arm, DF 1 if they were painted long arm. ( blue truck post#6 )

Looking at these pics I did not see any peep mirrors, haven't had a chance to sit in a truck that have these installed Brothers Trucks sell 3" and 4". Would like to get some opinions on whether or not they give a decent view of the blind spots right rear and left rear corners of a truck. Thanks!

This thread is about stock from the factory mirrors or stock dealer add on mirrors.

Peep mirrors are something you would get at an auto parts store. If you hit the search button they have been the subject of many threads.

I've installed my LMC door mirrors . Way better than nothing , but I sure wish I'd left my factory mirrors on . With my luck I'll probably find them now .

Here are two more period factory mirrors. The white truck has the " fly swatters" and other is the stainless swing lock western mirrors used on '67 and '68. Lets turn this thread into the definitive mirror thread and try to get factory option codes on SPID for each style, both painted and stainless. Trucks with standard issue or aftermarket mirrors will not have any option codes on SPID.

Mine have a fair amount of vibration, but it doesn't seem to come from the arm as it seems that the repop mirror back is too light and flexes way to easy. I will be looking for some originals to try out if they are better. I have mine oriented horizontality instead of vertically which I doubt makes a difference.

Many of these West Coast type mirrors were installed days after the sale!

My '68 had a factory mount for one of these mirrors. I scrounged a pair, and drilled the passenger door to have a matching set.
No idea if it had round or square mirrors originally. I went with the round ones.
I used a convex auxiliary mirror off a Semi-Truck for the passenger side. works good.

My truck is a low option model, V8, 4-speed 2wd, plain Jane, short wide.

Would you say that this style of side mirror, when horizontal, provide a better view than the standard “sport mirrors”? I have the eyeline mirror , the folding “dumbo “ and I’m on the fence to switch them for sport mirrors but sometimes they look too small like t rex arms on the square body I have. And just wanted a mirror in between , not too small and not too big.
