Have some more pics of fabbing up the mounts that I'll get up here later. Currently, I have the engine sitting pretty well right in front of the firewall mark, at a 5 deg angle, and have the oil pan at the same height as the front suspension crossmember. So shouldn't be dragging the oil pan around.
Next Monday, local driveshaft guy is coming by to measure/make me a slip-shaft driveshaft... The clearance with the rear driveshaft hoop is a bit tight, the engine is as low in the frame as it can go, don't wanna much more than 5deg and will have just a few inches to spare where the driveshaft fits thru to the rear end... will see how driveshaft measures out.... concerned I may need a 2-piece driveshaft.

Expecting to put the 5-window cab on next, w/ doors and fenders and take it down the street for body work on just the cab. Expecting to have a fairly rough set of fenders/bed for awhile and will first get cab, brake/fuel/hoses all sorted out first

A few pics to show how the lower mounts were fab'd. I've been able to do all of the work myself up to this point, but lacking a good 220 at home for welding. David at Sante Fe Garage (Independence) helped with getting the mounts all welded up for me.

Also, before I bring the frame back home, I asked the shop to give it an alignment. They have been weighting down frames with these yellow bags with good results so when the vehicle is final it should still be in decent alignment.

Picked up and installed the driveshaft today. Steel drive shaft, 54" long, 3" diameter, 1330 series with a slip-shaft in the middle.
Have 3+ inches of rear shock travel, hope it doesn't interfere in the driveshaft hoop.... it looks like it won't as long as the rear-end bump stops don't compress to nothing.

I did get my frame and engine back home, just getting it out of the garage so I can start swinging doors, hammering on stuff and start putting the cab together.

Spent half of my day pulling out the lower hinges still stuck in the door. The uppers all came out of the 1951 Cab + 1 yard pull. These lowers are out of the 49 doors.
The panel covering the bolts on the door are solidly rusted in. I tried some penetrant/wd40, a giant phillips and a hammer to no avail. Time to drill em out! Used a 1/4 inch cobalt drill bit and copious oil... Last one broke off the rear nut holding it, but was lose enough I could twist the panel around and get to the rear nut with 9/16 and unbolt the hinge... I found that the bar that attaches the bumper to the truck works great to hammer out the old hinge from the door. Even with the bolts out, the hinge was unmovable. Disassembled, with top of bolts still sticking out... 5 hinges out.... Have oversized hinge pins and springs to rebuild these this week

Sheesh, getting hinge pins out is hard!
Saw this link in another post and highly recommend! Had to cut out washer around hinge pin with angle grinder and use acetylene torch before the pins would budge. http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/basi...es-125350.html Disassembled hinges w/o pins, cab shackles and ready for blasting and paint...

ah yes the rust-sticktion of old parts.
I have had pretty good luck with hinges, never needed to rebuild a set but its nice to know there is a how-to for that.

So its been awhile since last post, and I sware I've been doing stuff it just seems as if I'm going to be in body work purgatory for awhile... Been blasting, painting and tearing stuff apart...
Media blasted misc parts Stripped the cab, tore out the driver side cowl that was a rotten, bent mess... Cut out cab corners

Starting to paint...
Using SPI Black Epoxy Primer first... (1st pass on doors) What the epoxy painted door looks like...(these are actually practice doors as I have two cabs, and I am new to painting...) My grandpa raced cars in the Midwest during the 50s, I plan on painting these practice doors like his old car and hanging them up in the garage... bottom is a royal maroon color, white top

Also picked up a old Quincy 325 2-stage compressor pump that I've blasted the head and painted too w/ B&S 5hp that got the paint (in pic above)...

Nice progress. Any newbie tips you have for painting that you've figured out? What is the plan with the cab? Are you blasting and painting it or just leaving it as is for now.
I couldn't stare at that truck for 10 years without tinkering a little.

Hah yeah, I bought the truck when I was single, got married, kids and all sorts of stuff happened.
So far I've just watched a bunch of YouTube videos on painting. Talked to everyone I know that has painted. A few things stick out... always test and adjust your gun. I bought a roll of brown paper that I use to test spray every time I paint. You want the pattern to look like a football. It takes 2x as long to clean as to do the painting. Follow the directions on the paint. Sanding fixes all mistakes. So far it looks like it is sticking well I'm going to be shortly blasting the cab, fenders and hood and spraying the same black epoxy. Will then get sheet metal fixed on the cab (it needs a bunch of work). Will finish up with filler, primer, sealer base and a flat clear in that order. Going for a flat dark red finish. Interior is a bit undecided. I'm mostly set on a black dash w red pearl. Not sure if I'm painting the rest of interior with the same dark red or white. I will be painting the floor with Al's bedliner with the rubber traction stuff. Using the lizardskin sound control and heat shield stuff on firewall/bottom.

I'd consider $150 a pretty expensive gun already I tried doing my research a little into it and quickly got inundated by higher and higher costs with no anecdotal information on what works best for the home hobbyist. I'm certainly not trying to paint 1,000 cars in my garage. What tip have you found to work best, 1.4mm, 1.6mm? I think my compressor is doing 6.2cfm at 40psi. I'm a little worried I didn't buy enough compressor.

They have several different concours guns, I picked up the LT version for $65. You will need multiple tip sizes depending on primer, epoxy, base and clear being different consistency. The spi paint I'm using specifies tip size on the tech sheet which goes back to the rule of following the paint directions. One thing to note is the cheapie lt gun does need a really good cleaning before you use it. The black finish on the gun fouls up the internals and just needs a solid scrub with solvent. Reviews are pretty consistent on the issue and they include a one page that tells you to clean it first. They are apparently too cheap to do this when made
