Re: My 48 ford shop truck
I used 3m panel bond(8115).Its a structural adhesive for steel.I use it when putting door skins and quarter panels on at work.I have been using it for all kinds of projects on my own builds. It obliviously will glue metal together, even dissimilar metals like steel to aluminum, but also acts as a sealant, its not affected by gas, oil, chemicals once it has cured, and acts as a rust preventer where ever you use it.

Re: My 48 ford shop truck
Before I finished up the inside of the cab,I needed to finish welding the fire wall/trans tunnel.Of course to do that,Had to pull the front sheet metal off again, and pull the motor/trans for access.
I put it up on stands to make the job easier..... |

Re: My 48 ford shop truck
While it was in the air,I wanted to finish welding the bottom of the cab corners and cowl extensions.Needed to clean off a little filler first........kinda got carried away....
Ended up stripping the rest of the cab, except the doors.I had found some small rust bubbles where the top chop joints were at,so i figured i better clean it out now and fix it so it wont bite me in the butt later... I did end up finishing the cab corners.... |

Re: My 48 ford shop truck
Finished boxing the frame rails where the motor/trans were blocking before.
Had to box the area around the front spring,so I dropped the front suspension and got to work. With every thing boxed and cleaned ,added some paint to finish it out. The front suspension will get color later, being that some parts are going to be painted, and some powder coated. |

Re: My 48 ford shop truck
I really like the front end on your truck. I'd like to have something similar on my next project.
Wish I had your skills and patience. Cayoterun

Re: My 48 ford shop truck
Though It was time to update this build,so here it goes.......
Installed a dual latch system for the hood. Its actually a small bear claw system meant for tail gates.Added some door poppers to open the hood. Added the strikers to the hood, and built an inner brace...twice. Needed to re-peak the hood, ground off the old brake line peak, added new solid 1/4" round rod. |

Re: My 48 ford shop truck
After the prior owners work on it,cows walking on it in a field, and my cutting the snot out of it,the hood needed a little heat shrinking to help it conform to its new shape.I have only done this one time successfully,so of course.I jumped in head first....Four evenings later,I got it to conform to my will....Its if far from perfect, but it is no longer stretched and the smaller ripples can easily be filled later.
This is how it looked after the shrinking..... I moved on to the interior panels. Im doing this now,so I can work without having to worry about scratching the paint. I used some panel board from the local diy store and left over wood from past projects. Rear cab panel: Door and kick panels: Arm rests: Center console rear storage: All the panels are just roughed out, they will get final fit and finished when I get to the actual upholstery part of the build. The upper center console will also have a solid civer to hide the door/lock assembly. |

Re: My 48 ford shop truck
Spent my labor day weekend working on the bed.Got the first round of filler/primer work done.Still need to go back and do the touch ups and re-prime and block it .
Spent the last few days working on the cab.again, got the first round of filler/primer on it.Still need to do the detail work, jambs, dashboard, inner sheet metal, etc.I can see better now, what still needs to be done before the next round of priming/blocking..... Now I feel like Im making some progress again, hopfully it will keep me motivated though all the tedious jamb/dash work I have to do now...... |

Re: My 48 ford shop truck
Just stumbled on this build and read through the thread. Very cool build. I've been thinking about doing something like this once my '65 C10 is done. My skills are nowhere close to yours, but a build like this looks like a blast. Tuning in for the rest for sure.

Re: My 48 ford shop truck
Just realized its been quit a while since I updated this build,so here it goes....
I have been blocking primer for a while now.I got thru the first round of it, I always liked the stock '48 hood side trim,so I put it back on before the second round of primer. Primer round 2.... Blocking round 2.... I really hate blocking,so in an effort to keep my self motivated,I had some paint sprayed on the front sheet metal to see if all the blocking is worth the extra work....
