A buddy of mine has the LT1/4l60e in his 49 panel truck. The thing is heavy and not aerodynamic at all. He gets 18 mpg, but drives pretty fast (85-90 mph) on trips. This is with 373 gears and dual air conditioners blowing! I think that 18-20 is a reasonable guess for our trucks, if driving normally.

Tank solutions....
gimme a call on any needed tank solutions. I can build an 18 gallon aluminum cell with sending unit, pump, straps and necessary hardware for $480. Drop me a line. I am fixing to to the same swap to my truck. I bought a 50,000 95 Z28 LT1,4L60E for $1500. I can't wait to get started. Later, FuelCellGuy

Hi guys,
I finally got to a point where I can mount the engine onto the frame. I got disappointed when my L6 250 engine mounts didn't fit in the configuration of the holes on the '95 LT1 block. Do I need to use the 350 mounts, or do I drill new holes onto the inline 6 mounts. I tried to see if I have a pic of it, but I don't. I thought that the 3 bolt holes would line up. Can I get some help please? (I also posted in the engine drivetrain section, but I thought I would get better results with the people already on this thread.) tia, Jay

Mounts
I believe you may be better off using a 69 Chevelle 350 mount. It should bolt right on. I used these mounts on mine and built new engine stands. The circle shows the stands. In this picture I have yet to weld the side brace that runs from the top the frame to the pipe the bolt slides through. Hope it helps. Later, FCG

I have a question about the AC. Im transplanting a 96 LT1 from an Impala into my truck. I currently do not have air and Im looking at the aftermarket kits like Old Air's. Do I use the compressor that came with the LT1 or do I use one that would come with the kit?

I am using..
the stock compressor. You will have to clearance the frame in order to do this.

I used...
a stock condenser and a Vintage Air Gen II. It worked great. I say it worked, it worked when the big block was in there, I am sure it will work just fine with the LT1. Various fitting are available at your local parts store. Shoudn't be to difficult to setup. Later, FCG

I thought the 6cyl engine stands and the stock SB motor mounts were supposed to bolt right up to a SBC or a newer LT-1... I wasn't sure which 6cyl stands though... inline or v6 .. there were a couple sizes too (265/295?)... I'm still confused on that ... I was looking to get a set of mounts from one of the members but I dont know if they'll work ....

The purpose for using the 6cyl stands is to move the engine back in the frame for a couple reasons... beter weight distribution and when Ihave a one piece driveshaft, it will be just that much shorter .... I have a v8 now ...
I'll be in line for a fuel cell as well this summer.... |

CONGRATS ... What mounts did you end up using? In what location, two front holes or two rear holes? How is the clearance with the frame and the accessories? can you take some pics of the clearances and post them.....

Lots of clearance. I used the stock 250 rubber mounts and bolted them right up to the engine, except for the driver side where only 2 bolts were able to match. I used the stock 350 engine towers in the forward holes. I still have th 250 towers just in case. I removed the A/C so that it would fit. I plan to use vette accessory brackets. I'll try and get day pics today.

I have Caprice brackets and I was wondering if the Camaro brackets fit ... I dont want to cut the frame if I dont have to... I guess I'll be looking for Corvette brackets as well .. you will also need the Hub/Balancer for the vette too as its a different offset then the F-body brackets...
Pics would be great ... how much clearance for the oil pan? I think I still want to use the I6 towers so it will move the engine back the extra 3 +/- inches. I will have a one piece drive shaft and the shorter the better. Are you using the 4L60e trans from the F-body as well? I bought a shifter from a 94 Camaro and I'm going to build a center console to put it in. |

If you saw fuell cell guy's pick, he used the stock camaro brackets, but had to weld the towers to the front crossmember. The LT1 fits just fine using the V8 or L6 towers to mount. Lots of clearance for oil pan. I'll take some pics of that too. I don't think you'll need a new balancer, but don't quote me on it. I'm using the 4L60e from the same donor car. Hopefully I can get it cleaned up and bolted on as well.

I used....
Early Chevelle motor mounts, the ones with the integrated torque stop. I didn't have any small block or L6 stands so, I made my own. At the same time, I raised my engine for maximum ground clearance. Hehehe, NOW I can drop the pan if I have to without removing the engine.

The corvette serpentine and the camaro do use different balancers. You can see some other options at Street and Performance www.hotrodlane.cc
You may have a difficult time finding the corvette setup, and it may be pretty expensive. I'm cheap, so I cut the top of the frame rail. It is in front of the crossmember, and I guess I made a crumple zone!

AMEN....
minibike. A little cut here, a little cut there (with the plasma cutter of course). Just a dab of griding and polishing and no one will ever notice.
