Mark I'm not sure what manufacturer made the topper on my GMC. Bell maybe? Here's the decal remnant. If anyone can tell me who the manufacturer is I'd be thrilled.

By the late-70s there were places slapping these caps together all over the place. You could walk into a camper dealer and order one up any way you needed it. These were the angled side flat front and back style. I had one made for my '69 Dodge W200 8' Utiline for my trip to AZ. I kept it simple. Back when these were popular the thing was to have all the bells and whistles, such as plexiglass windows on side, lights, and an accent stripe on the side. I ordered mine all white with just the crank-out windows on the side. I did add 3 clearance lights on the rear and black-out tint to the windows. No paneling or insulation. I could take it on and off by myself. Never took a picture with it on. I wonder if there are still places to build them. It's gone to fiberglass these days, though, but many of those companies make aluminum work caps

Re: Caps, toppers, camper shells - ONLY!

A simple camper shell when this '67 GMC 3/4 ton was brand new. It's a shame we don't see many '67-'68 3/4 tons restored to factory, they have such a unique look that other models just don't have. This one is in Terrace Blue, a standard GMC color used between '62-'68.

I don't know the name, but there is a camper shell manufacturer in San Diego that apparently can make one. When I had my Longhorn,I considered it, but decided to sell the truck instead.

Re: Caps, toppers, camper shells - ONLY!

The one that got away. It sat in an alley near my house and I watched it for years. 1967 CST. When I saw a for sale sign I called over and over. No answer. I wanted this truck BAD!

Too slow, it was already sold by the time I got a hold of the guy, and he sold it cheap

Re: Caps, toppers, camper shells - ONLY!

I just picked up this Jay Bird camper top and they threw in the 68 K20 that's under it. Maybe it was the other way around.

People are drawn to the camper as much as the truck. I was told it's been on the truck for many years, and the condition of the bed wood seems to support that.

Congrats, that is a great truck and camper - I remember when it was up for sale - both in great shape and the camper is perfect on it. Would love to have one like that.

Does anyone know whether a camper shell from 4th generation (96) Chevy fleet side will fit on our trucks?

Re: Caps, toppers, camper shells - ONLY!

ttt. Need more camper shells! Ha. I'm STILL looking for one. Gonna share my sub-amateur photoshop madness... the truck is mine, but none of the camper shells are.. Ha. # 4 is more of a camper, not a shell. (one of these might look familiar Pete, hope you don't mind me trying it on for size ) I'm REALLY looking for one like #3. Just not many of these around these days. Most of them took a beatin..

Re: Caps, toppers, camper shells - ONLY!

The shell I took off my truck looked exactly like your #3, except that the accent strip was red (my father in law thought that Hugger Orange was red). It came from Red-Land Campers, which is now defunct. My new shell is from Bel-Air Shells in Garden Grove. They are a reseller (I found out after I ordered it) but they can spec what you want. http://belairshells.com/wood-n-alum

I see you are in Texas, so never mind about these guys. I'll leave the link in case anyone in California cares.
