Re: Plus Five

The finest build I've read to date here. I only wish I had the skills, patience and dineros you have Sir. I've learned on my build that I can live without perfection at this point as life is short and I've already got my mind on the next build. I'm a little disappointed in my self for that.

This truck will be a show stopping winner.

Thanks,

It's been over 3 years already, and I think I can finish it this year.
I've actually learned to slow down and add features to the build because
that's what I like doing most.

As far as living without perfection, the photos make everything look a lot
better than in person. I was lucky to find a good painter!
And believe me, there are times of frustration and disappointment throughout
this project. It's kind of like kids when they've grown up, you mostly remember
the good stuff.

My wife and I aren't going to show it, we are going to drive it!

Didn't know just how bad/crude my fab work was until I saw yours. Suddenly I'm feeling a little inadequate.....

Re: Plus Five

I made the inner fenders from 18 gauge steel. The hood
frame closes against a strip of aluminum attached to
the fenders that will not be painted. A rubber weatherstrip
on the frame will seal it up.

I used a bracket at the firewall similar to the original Z channel
to space the inner fender about an inch away from the firewall.

Re: Plus Five

I also made covers that go over the inside of the
A-arms. They cover up the A-arm pivot area and
will keep spray from coming in from the wheel well.

You can see some of them in these pictures.

Re: Plus Five

Absolutely love the front bumper tuck! I appreciate the subtelty of it. Very custom, but it looks like it could have rolled off the factory line that way.

Re: Plus Five

There are so many nice details in your build that are extremely well done. I like the stake pocket extensions, and the end caps, and the ... Thanks for showing all the details.

Re: Plus Five

So,
I think I've covered most of the rear bed, fenders etc.

I do want to mention MAR-K quality truck parts. I bought
all of my box parts from them, and they are excellent.
Service and shipping were great.

It saved so much time using their new parts I think it saved
me money as well! Great products!!!!!!

I planned a different type bed floor, so ordered my bedsides
without holes or angle strip welded in place.
They have options already in place to custom order your box
parts and mine came exactly as ordered.

I wanted something sturdy, maintenance free, and different.

I drew up a sketch of a flange and C-channel shape and had a local
sheet metal shop bend them up for me. I stayed shy just a little
from the sides, and installed a L-shaped bracket to tie it
together and fill the gaps.

It is .080 brushed stainless steel. I made recess and dimple dies
to mount the screws and bolts. There are a ton of bolts that hold it
together and hold it down to the frame cross members.

I'll peel the plastic wrap of later.

OK,
took some pictures of the license plate holder.
In the first picture you can see a threaded hole with
two dimples along a radius around that hole. That piece
is painted but is stainless steel.

The spring pins mount in the plate holder that pivots. the pivot
is just a shoulder bolt and stainless bushings.

you can see the pivot hole and spring pin threaded hole on the
back of the plate holder.

Re: Plus Five

This thread started out so innocently......
"It doesn't need to win awards."
"I am going to drive it."
"I'll also soon be getting into some areas outside my comfort level, so will be
asking for some help."

Yeah, whatever. It has morphed into some of the cleanest, sickest fab work on the site. Great job!

I'll try to get some pictures of it when it goes back together.
I don't think I showed it very well in those pictures.
