Re: 68 shortbed frame up rebuild (dropping it) - pics
I got the engine off of the frame and started cleaning the front end. lots of oil and gunk all over the frame. i love oven cleaner, really hard to breathe when using it but the results are amazing.
going to take some pics after work.

you probably thought of this, but when I was working with that oven cleaner, I had to get me a respirator.

Re: 68 shortbed frame up rebuild (dropping it) - pics
i just hold my breath and stay up wind when i take my next breath. I only need to use it for one more day.
3onthetree: I pulled the front suspension and dropped the trailing arms. going to do more cleaning on the underside of the frame and get it as clean as i can. think im going to undercoat it this weekend.

Re: 68 shortbed frame up rebuild (dropping it) - pics
did more work on the frame today
sprayed oven cleaner last night and this is how i found it in the morning. i finally sprayed some under coating on the bottom. letting it sit overnight and then im going to flip it tomorrow morning and spray the top. pretty soon i am going to install the suspension and see how its going to sit.

Re: 68 shortbed frame up rebuild (dropping it) - pics
well i flipped the frame over yesterday and painted the top side this time. didnt have my camera with me but i will be out there working on it again today. I think we are going to install the new upper/lower a arms and bags. gonna see how low the front end is going to go.
feels really good to start building it back up rather than taking it apart.

Re: 68 shortbed frame up rebuild (dropping it) - pics
for the most part, im on my own. but when it comes to using things like the welder, plasma cutter and the paint gun, i let my buddy take care of those jobs.
i work on it daily from 4:30 to about 7:30 or so mon-thur and late into the night on friday. pretty much all day saturday im working on it. after 7:30 and all day sunday is quality time with the boss, i mean wife.

Re: 68 shortbed frame up rebuild (dropping it) - pics
thanks, but because it has been raining pretty much all week, work has come to a crawl. I sprayed my control arms with etching primer but thats all i can do until the rain stops, we dont have a spray booth. going to paint them black and install them to see how much the front end is going to drop. hope to be able to do something today.

Re: 68 shortbed frame up rebuild (dropping it) - pics
ok got plenty done today. the front suspension got painted black so it was time to install them. put in the upper/lower a arms and then got the 2in drop spindle. its great knowing that im going to have disc brakes all around.
put my tires back on and started lowering the jack and kept seeing the frame getting lower and lower. it finally stopped when the lower a arms hit the ground. I couldnt believe i hit ground, looks like im going to have a lot of work to do on the rear to get it level. On to the pics and as always, i have a few more pics in my photobucket, link in my sig

Re: 68 shortbed frame up rebuild (dropping it) - pics
Hey, if they work!
I'm guessing they were a LITTLE cheaper than say CPP's tubular arms...
