You know, fresh painted block on the stand, new parts, rotating assembly getting balanced is a really good and exciting feeling. Has been for me for nearly 40 years and still is today. Good deal!

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)

Probably the most progress I have ever gotten done on the truck in one evening so far I was tired of thinking about my previous failed attempt of bed removal and being as the truck won the first battle I was out to win the war and boy did it give up a good fight.

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)

Okay so not all went as well as hoped but it never really does I started to assemble a head but the umbrella style seals are to large for my double springs so I turned down the guides to .500in to accept positive seals and ordered some up so that's on hold for a few days.

Then I went ahead and worked on getting the front clip all aligned on my subframe install I have a good sized gap on the passenger side that needs shimmed I tried to use what I had but it was either to much or not enough so I will look around at work for some other sizes floating around.

In other news today is rainy and cold again so there goes my burst of work time for the week after this its back to "normal" for South Dakota weather

Looks like you're making good progress.
Did some one cut the top of the doors off?

Yes and then welded it to the cab and filled in the slot for a window glass I don't think this guy ever heard of rain or security. None the less I think a little PBR was involved that night in the garage

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)

Coming along..... get a shot with that hood down, I want to see the cut cab from the front. If those doors are that jacked up and rusted out too you might consider getting others rather then wasting time on those. Make your new cuts on the chop and do it right.

Just got my new hood from a guy out here that has like 50 doors in his back yard! ---- a mecca of 55-59 parts!

If you cant find something local let me know. Shipping a couple doors thru Fastenal cant be too expensive. This guy in Stockton has dozens of them.

I think some of it is in the hood and some is in the fender alignment

Does anyone have a picture of the lower fender bracket mine are all gone

If it comes to it we may need to come to an agreement on a set of doors or maybe I could drive out who knows at this rate

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)

Been fighting this hood gap for an hour and a half I got the fenders dialed in to the cab but the hood just won't line up on both sides... It either hits the front of the passenger fender or its 2 inches from the cowl I know there's a dent there but I don't see much damage and was hoping to get it close before blasting it apart for paint maybe its a two man job....

What was he asking for a door if you don't mind me asking? They don't need to be rust free just more workable than what I've got i.e. Upper channel not welded to the cab

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)

Now thats a cool shot, I think the cut is perfect, just enough and not too much. That hood fitment is a PIA! - Are you using the hood brackets to adjust the mounting too? if not try using them, they dictate where the hood sits.

I will check for you pricing on the doors here in CA. Im assuming you want just stripped door shells? If not let me know what you want. send it to me in pm.

thanks

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)

yah I was moving the hood on the hinge and the hinge last night I had a dream of my alignment issues and in my dream I solved my alignment issue by taking off the fenders aligning the hood then doing the fenders then the core support I woke up and thought to myself "now thats a good idea" I guess I had to sleep on it

pm sent ptc

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)

Well my "sleep on it" technique worked had a buddy swing by and hold the hood while I got it lined up hammered that dent out quick too then slid the clip back on and she is good to go for paint prep in my book its close enough to play with more later when its done getting painted

Next on the list cut the passenger side upper door frame off the cab and get to work cleaning up the welding rod and re bar rods they used as filler metal then the cab comes off and the frame gets boxed
