Wink Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

Got the frame squared up today. and cut to length No extra now. By the way, after getting a closer look, the frames are close to the same size, and close to the same shape, but just close. there must be some difference in either the frames from suburban to truck, or from 91-94. on the 94 suburban the frame is a perfect C-channel frame. on the 91 pickup the frame has a slight s bend in the top lip that kinda opens the c up a little. Pretty sure I can still make it work, just was a little surprised upon finding this out and thought I'd share it with you guys.

Now to trim up the sheet metal body and get these trucks Married!

That's nice, I knew I had seen it somewhere before.
Where'd you get your roll pan? or how did you build it yourself?

Because of the floor in the suburban starts coming up to make room for the wheel wells I will have to carry the floor from the truck forward a little farther. the cab roof of the truck may get cut back to allow me to build and match the ridges in the roof of the suburban. We'll see?

I've got till the 11th off of work, hopefully I can get them "married" before then. at least that's the plan. May not be completely done, but I'd at least like it to be able to roll on it's own axles again.

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

no progress tonight but I did dig up a thread from 04 about shortening a frame. Same principal, just wish I had found it before I cut. Great read, and good info. Check it out here. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=123624

Re: 8-9 seater shortbed

Build looks likes its coming along nicely, just one question though: why are you wanting to put the extended cab section so far back? Why not used the ex cab "b pillar" in place of the suburbans "c pillar" ? Just a question, not knocking your build. Love the idea.

I'm not sure they are. I've still got a ways to go with lineing this thing up. I sure like taking pictures along the way.

It sure doesn't help that the floor is not level.

It's a good question, and it was my intent to use the trucks b pillar as the new c pillar, However, the c pillars on suburbans and I belive on crew caps as well does not match the b pillars. The extra length will help with leg room and provide more strength ans I didn't have to cut through the original support structure. I belive this to be the easy way to do it. If there is such a thing.

Yeah, I was thinking worst case scenario I could shimm the body mounts or something. I don't think I'm too far off though. I think with a little more trimming here and there I can get it to line up without having to do that.

Sometimes I feel like the guy who told his boss " I DID CUT IT! I cut it twice and it's still too short."

I plan on getting the truck back to "rolling" status, IE: get the frame welded. Next: Gas tank plumbed and strapped in the bed for temporary. Then: Brake lines and drive shaft. Then: come back and graft the cab together. If I need to I can pull the body mounts on the xcab and line it up that way. We shall see if my plan works out.

After that:The expensive stuff, Paint and body work and new tires! and maybe the Maple-leaf Parade and car show!

this has brought new definition to both "Frankenburb" and "Frankentruck" simultaneously. I love it.
