Re: 1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne K30 Extended Cab Dually REBUILD thread.

I should have said "shifting the front AXLE rearward is a good move" to allow more space in front of the engine- sorry. My truck should be the standard 127" WB- it's 126 1/2"

Looks like an awesome build. Love the 12v Cummins, can't wait to see it finished.

Looking great! You might be able to use zero rate off set blocks to move the axle. It might raise the truck some but is a faster fix to move the front axle forward. Just an idea for you.

I was going to suggest looking into those. I almost swapped my Cheyenne on to a square body Suburban 4X4 chassis & was planning on using those to get the WB closer.

Re: 1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne K30 Extended Cab Dually REBUILD thread.

We made some progress this weekend but no pictures. We got the body exactly where it needs to sit on the frame. Made the measurements and started to figure out the mounting needs. I need to get it locked down so I can move it out of the lift bay area. We removed the grille to cut holes in the radiator support for the inner cooler and removed the booster and master to swap with the hydroboost one off of the Dodge. We are also doinf some mechanical maintenance at thi point to include the KDP check, re seal the injector pump and new water pump.

Re: 1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne K30 Extended Cab Dually REBUILD thread.

We have been doing some of the little things and ordering parts. The cab mounting took a bit of time. It is bolted together and now is tack welded to the frame. The mechanical (engine) work that needed to be done should be completed this afternoon. The injector pump needed to be resealed at the back, the "killer dowel pin" needed to be checked and or done and we are putting a new water pump on it all while the grille is off the truck. By next weekend the bed should be mounted and I plan on moving the truck over to my 4 post lift where I can easily and safely work underneath that heavy beast alone. Next step is to cut the holes needed in the radiator support to accommodate the inner-cooler, get it mounted along with the AC condenser and then start to install and fabricate the brake booster and clutch slave from the Dodge. .

Re: 1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne K30 Extended Cab Dually REBUILD thread.

We had a full day. The body has been tightened down, the bed mounts were made, installed and tightened, we dropped it on the ground and fabbed up the inter-cooler. Tomorrow I will attach the condenser, work on the front bumper and possibly start working on the steering. Once the custom size radiator arrives (this week) i can get it installed and probably have it running again.

Re: 1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne K30 Extended Cab Dually REBUILD thread.

Today we had a light day. We got the old useless engine harness and computer to include cruise control removed, mocked up the front bumper, started working on the clutch master cylinder placement and finally moved the truck from the 2 post bay to the 4 post bay where I will be a little more comfortable working under it while in the air if I am in the shop by myself.

Thanks, Its a communal shop built by many with numerous Rottenwood Garage members hanging around at any time. I am just the fortunate one to have it in his back yard!. 100's of vehicles have passed through the doors in the last 15 years.
