Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Glued on new weather stripping on my 55first... Want to talk about what a pain that is.. Also, FYI anyone else that's getting ready to do it might want to get two tubes of the adhesive.. one wasn't enough for me.
Then took the old beast put for a drive .. |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Actually, this was Friday morning.
My drive 10-miles to the Eagleville (MO) Locker at under 30-degrees, was my coldest drive in the hot rod. The heater worked pretty well considering being parked outside all night. I was picking up half of a nice black angus we bought from a neighbor. The butchers tell me I caused a work stoppage as I circled the town square for my approach.

That works! They know how to set up a TF panel.
Thanks for posting that shot, Russell.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
If you keep the axle under the spring, how much does that kit lower the truck? I'm about to start on making a change to my rear suspension and I think that might be what I will use. Do you remember the price of the kit?

Got my cab painted today.
FINALLY
It seemed like a long time coming to get to this point. A real milestone. All in all it went pretty well. I'm pleased. I sprayed a single coat of 25% reduced epoxy for a sealer/adhesion coat and then 3 coats of the green. The instructions say to mix it 3-1-1 but I like to reduce a little more so I mixed it at 3-1-2. All was done with my Iwata LPH-400 set at 23 psi at the gun. The paint is Pro-Spray single-stage urethane in RAL-6009 Fir Green. Here's what I do for my air setup: I removed the glass from the windows in my garage doors and tape filters over the openings. On the back wall, I mount 12V fans in the window and they blow outwards. |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
I paid $165 for this one. It wasn't nearly as nice when I got it but it did have a good running 50 Mercury flathead engine. I replaced it with a SBC and automatic, but if I had it now the flathead would stay. The front clip in the pic is all NOS that I found locally but never found a new tailgate. Nothing for this truck was re-produced back then.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
It snowed last weekend, so yesterday I brushed the snow off with a soft broom.
My driving season is over 2-months earlier than usual. I don't drive after the highways get sprayed with salt-brine, until a good spring rain.

Put it to bed for winter so the DD can go in the garage, I hate scraping ice off the windows.

Fired up the old inline 6 for the first time in probably 6-8 months. Kinda feel a little bad swapping it out for 5.3...

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Well, it thawed the snow.
Then, it rained and washed the salt away. So, I went for a 60-mile cruise. Awesome day! Then it snowed, again.

I managed to pick up some tires this week. Once they're mounted the truck can be driven again. Then it's back to computer tuning that was interrupted two years ago.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
1950 3600 w/4 inch dropped 1/2t axle (sids), 1958 1/2t rear end and a purring 'lil 283ci and granny 4 speed. Pulled the tarp off her, filled all the tires with air, dropped a battery in her then squirted some gas in the carb. Had my 14yo son twist the key and she came to life!! He's never experienced the joy of of a standard let alone a standard in a good 'ol truck. So, I let him drive it around the yard (making sure he didn't run into the '51 or '52 3100's). He did great! He only killed it once and that was because he started off in third. All in all a good day and I think I've just created another " 'ol truck junkie". LOL

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Well I really did this yesterday, but didn't have time to post until today. Yesterday was a beautiful day at 70 so I took the pickup out for a drive. Drove about 50 miles thru some up and down ozark hills, curved back roads and had a great time. Here's a couple pics...Jim

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Fixed my heat control cable, installed my Newport wiper setup and the Retro-Sound radio while I was under the dash. My dash is full underneath so I hope I never need to do any repair to the wiper motor. I bought the radio and wipers a year ago but haven't been in the mood to install them before now. Someone had hacked the dash around the radio mounting holes so that's the reason for the black circles around the knobs. I turned some covers on the lathe that cover the damage. Wish I had repaired the dash when I first got the truck and the cab was empty but it's too late to think about welding on the dash now. I don't have any speakers yet, I'm still trying to decide which way I want to go with those.
