Re: 1964 Suburban Pics

Joe231....your second response is correct. I arranged it this way due to the tank and the space limitations. The tank feeds the T in the center and the outlet to the bags is inbetween each pair of valves. The valve on the end is the exhaust........after talking w/ Dino yesterday I will be adding a reducing pipe fitting on the exhaust and to slow the release of air from the bags. Ive seen Dinos Panel in action and its scary fast!!!!!! Its ok if you're set up for that type of movement, but I will not be.

The compressors are Viair 400's......very fast recovery time but suck about 60a's.......it will be 150psi system. I will probably need to bump up my electrical system to keep this thing going.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics

cool, thanks for the info. why would you need to slow the decent? easier adjustability, or could you tear something up letting it down too fast? what would need to be "set-up" for the faster lowering? Thanks

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics

my 62 is a fast up and down, I hate it. it bounces your head off the roof on the way up and smacks the frame so hard going down, you think you broke your back. the new set up will be slowed down to a reasonable speed. Also, my setup is on a four link. thats way fast and violent sucks joe

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics

Joe231..........krod nailed it on his response. You also have it in yours......its more easily controlled and in my case I have exhaust, brake lines, and whatever not up to the task..........no notch in place, etc. This is what i meant by being set-up. My buddy has one bagged w/ 1/4" line and its extremely mellow. Dinos truck is all custom and it hits the ground and sounds like a big garbage dumpster being dropped on the ground. It drops as fast as gravity can do its job.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics

thanks guys, makes since to me. I would like a relative fast drop, and slower rise. guess I will have to do some testing. while we are on the subject, are all valves created equal? what are the ones you guys are running? how are the viair 400s as far as price? I think I would like to run a york on the engine, but dunno yet. Thanks for everyones patience and help!

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics

Joe231.........I pieced this system together using some donated parts from Dinos63(and a bunch of info) and some cheepo parts that my friends had extra from their projects. I am new to this stuff and I am learning it as I go.

I chose the 400's for compressors due to their fast fill time. I think under 3min for a 5gal tank(2.54cfm a piece) and cheaper than the 2 packs I see advertised.........on the suspension section I asked people to tell me about their bag pressures and NOBODY used more than 120psi. I dont see the point of going to 200psi.........the trade-off was the 60a draw. I figured I was going to have to wire the compressors anyway; what difference does it make if I use larger wire?

To update you on the slowdown.......what I chose to do was get 3/8s pipe plugs. I can now drill them small and adjust the speed to my taste. If i bought a reducing fitting I would be stuck....these all cost in the neighborhood of 2 bucks apiece. I used Parker valves because thats what I could get from my friends.

If you want to go slow up, use smaller line than 1/2"........somebody mite know differently.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics

Heres an update..........nothing like making a project out of a project! I picked up a project box from Radio Shack and installed my junction block and relays for the compressors inside. The box has a cover for when its completed. Finished mounting it to the frame and ran my battery cable; its temporary as I will add a second battery when the time is correct; that explains the wire ties and the big loop. I now must wire the switches and feed the pressure switch on the tank.......then on to the bags themselves.

Hey joe, my setup is exactly what you want. I have 4 1/2 valves and 1/2 inlet bags with 1/2 line. This is huge stuff when your talking an air system. I run a york compressor that works great. I would advise some kind of choke on the dump valves, fast violent is only cool for about 5 minutes when the chicks are looking. after your back is broke from slammin asphalt, its not cool anymore. just my own 2 cents

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics

thanks kd, do you have any words of wisdom on running the york? did you have to modify the compressor? how big of a tank do you run? I'm figuring on running 1/2 stuff.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics

I would suggest some kind of oiling system. mine is just a hand pump type. give a couple of squirts and let her run. only mod I did was an air cleaner and a pressure line to the tank. I run a 5 gallon tank and the york keeps up all day long. 120 psi anytime I need it. put it on a pressure switch to kick out the clutch on the compressor. hit me up if you have anymore questions

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics

.........Ok, here are some updates as progress is slow.

My slow downs on the valves.......drilled3/16's thru some caps.....can make 'em bigger if I need to do so.

Made a switch panel and wired in battery power for the switches and ignition power for the tank pressure switch. Mounted on dash for easy reach.

Had to decrease the size of the holes in my bag mounts and found some washers that fit exactly........welded those in and mounted the bags. Set it down and called it a day........its sitting on the bumpstops in the last pic.

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics

hey Jeff,
cool, err not so cool.
but at least it is "dry heat"
we haven't gotten up that high, mid to upper 90's
still sucks, would be so nice to have a shop with A/C
makes me miss Alaska
i managed to get power steering installed over the weekend,
made good use of a swamp cooler and a couple fans
my bags are on hold for a bit, think A/C will be coming next
[sarcasm] probably get A/C just in time for winter [/sarcasm]
