Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe

Some of the things I've gotten done over the last several weeks...
Got the grill, headlights and all put back on.
over time I must have lost one of the screws for one of the turn signal covers so I found another screw and made a spacer for it.
sadly I dropped one of the turn signal covers on the cement floor in the shop and busted a big chunk out the corner O well life goes on.
I had an extra cover but it was one with the trim on it so I just popped of the trim piece. You can kinda tell that it used to have the trim on it though as the outer edge is less faded. It sorta bugs me but it will have to do for now. I actually had a pair of the covers with the trim but I want to kind of keep the original look of this truck, for the most part anyway.

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe

Also I made a new control lever for the heater controls since one was broken.
made it out of some flat plate aluminum. have not decided if I will bother coming up with a knob piece for the end of the lever. Honestly I dont know if I would do this again it took a long time to make but whatever it does work.
I would suggest to anyone else it would be best to just find another set of controls Lol.

Sounds good, don't know how soon cause at the moment I'm excited to get out and drive the truck but I know want to get them re done sometime in the near future for sure.

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe

So I have made a lot of progress on the truck over the last couple weeks.
My emergency/parking brake pedal wasn't locking down anymore so I pulled one at a salvage yard no rubber pedal pad but I can get one later at least I have a parking brake now lol. The first yard I called was like, no we don't have any Chevys that old out there... So I'm like ok this is the last time I try that place (wasn't the first time that place was no help to me) So on a whim I decided to try my old favorite salvage yard that had closed down a while back, to my surprise they picked up and said they should have one and I could come out. After borrowing a grinder to cut off a stubborn bolt and some $15 later I had a good parking brake pedal assembly lol.

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe

I had a rear brake line that was rusty and badly pitted so I opted to replace it.
It wasn't leaking and I really didn't want to mess with it but decided I was better off safe than sorry. So glad I did once I got it removed and moved it around a bit I noticed what looked like brake fluid seeping out from the pitted spot so yeah it was only a matter of time and it would have blown out.

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe

So over the weekend the truck went out on its first drive in many many years...
Decided to keep the drive short and didn't go in to my main town but stoped at the small town much closer to home and filled up with gas and headed home.
The drive went well without any break downs which was nice!
Only real issue is my speedometer isn't working correctly which is a bit disappointing but I suppose I will get it sorted eventually.
I decided the exhaust was a bit too loud straight piped so yesterday I installed a glass pack to tone it down a bit but still make enough noise for me lol

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe

So after driving the truck a couple days I decided swap out the alternator due to it making some rattling noises. while looking at the alternator I noticed my water pump was leaking so after getting that replaced I filled up on coolant and then noticed my radiator was now leaking. worked on the radiator last night and took it for a short drive. went to bed thinking it was fixed, checked it this morning its leaking again. Not really sure I want to mess with it anymore its probably just time for a new one Lol.
And at least I have another truck to drive while I work on it lol.

Re: 1976 green c10 custom deluxe

So last Saturday I received my new radiator and got it installed. I've been driving the truck to work every day since Monday. I absolutely love driving the old truck! I will try to get some more pics up soon and theres plenty more work to be done lol but I can now drive it which was my goal to get done before summer was over lol.
