Re: 73-87 OEM Wheel Swaps
Mr Pops nice truck. I also find it funny that in 2011 you were looking for a set of aluminum wheels and settled on the chrome ones. I was looking for the chrome and settled on the aluminum painted ones.

Re: 73-87 OEM Wheel Swaps
Thanks for the compliment! If you're talking about the chrome H2 wheels, those were on my brothers truck, not mine. These latest ones on the blue truck are polished aluminum, I think they're going to end up on my car hauler trailer.

Re: 73-87 OEM Wheel Swaps
Guys, will the factory lugnuts that came on the newer style aluminum wheel (say 06 model) work on my studs? They are the lugs that have the outside thread for thr center cap but the inner threads seem different

Re: 73-87 OEM Wheel Swaps
No the lug nuts from the newer trucks are metric and our trucks are not. Hopefully this video starts at the lug nut explanation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...lwm5IUcw#t=181

Re: 73-87 OEM Wheel Swaps
Just wondering if these 88-2002 steel wheels will fit a 1974 2wd C30 with no issues. Some of the posts mention rubbing on steering not sure if they are talking about 2wd or 4wd.
Thanks |

Re: 73-87 OEM Wheel Swaps
I ran a set of 2000 C2500 steel wheels on my 1976 K20 for a while with 265/70R16 tires. They didn't rub at all.
The T400 and later trucks ran Metric lug studs so you can't use the stock 88-2002 dual thread lug nuts from your donor on your 1974 SAE lug studs. Not sure whether the dog dish hubcaps fit the 88 and later T400 steel wheels. I read somewhere that the wheel to lug nut taper changed in 1988 too but that's an unverified rumor. It's not a bad idea to replace the 1974 lug nuts along with the wheels anyway. My K20 had 9/16"-18 lug studs. You can evilbay four corners, sets of thirty-two, 9/16-18 dual thread lug nuts to hold on the 1988-2002 wheels. The SAE inner threads with 88-2002 outer threads let you thread the plastic hubcap retaining nuts on with the stock 1973-1991 lug studs. The plastic lug caps are nice to keep dirt out of the threads even if you don't run the hubcaps.
