Well, that was the right thing to do. But here's what it all comes down to... There are solicited opinions and there are unsolicited opinions. This was a case of unsolicited, he didn't ask your opinion. It takes a very objective thinker to accept an opinion not asked for and even more objective to actually consider it. In the end, the best decisions are those made by one who takes all opinions into account. Then you can defend your position by telling the opposition the flaw you see in their thinking by looking from their point of view. But it can also serve to better form your opinion by having an aspect shown to you that you hadn't considered. I guess that's why people ask when they do.

BTW, I am not a grease monkey. I am an OIL ORANGUTAN!!

BTT.
Are you kidding or serious? Because no one asked for opinions, which relates to the topic of this thread. Not sure how this relates to anything here, but you should know the member with the second most posts on this site could give a hoot about post count. He wishes there wasn't one because it embarrasses him. He isn't a post whore at all. He has so many posts because he likes to help people figure things out, make people laugh, keep this site interesting, likes to mess with his buddies, has started picture threads showing possibly thousands of pictures (5 pics to a post), Covered dozens of events (more picture posts), been here 11 years, was on staff a few years (requires additional posts), just plain loves these trucks and has since he was a kid (call it true passion) and this is the place to talk about them, and it's as simple as this is the place he prefers to socialize. In fact, it's about the only website he spends time on more that 5 minutes. I'm not offended, but since you brought it up...

Re: Asking for opinions and then getting mad

Postwhores and people who actually post something are two completely different things. Special k your posts are actually posts not just a "lol" or some random off topic thing orrr multiple posts when one will do. But just to lighten the tension here's another meme.

Oops! better say something . Uh... That thing is awfully cumbersome. But I think I need one!!

I'm good and hope I didn't start any bad vibes. I already forgot who it was I quoted and ain't goin' back to check. I just used the chance to say I couldn't care less about post count and to point out what I meant in my first post in this thread about a big difference between solicited and unsolicited opinions. That opinion came from out of the blue after Liz was just being silly

I'm not sure I understand the point in asking for opinions. Most of the solicitors have already spent the money, so what's going to change?

Posting "shorts" and emoticons are yet more examples of the decline of our society in my opinion (yes, I type full words and sentences). Of course it started long ago with "RIP" I guess. Still quite pathetic how the English language has given way to expediency. It surely isn't an evolution.... There are more illiterate people now than ever before--just look at CL.

Re: Asking for opinions and then getting mad

Dave, we are most definitely on the same page there. One of my pet peeves. Humans developed language as a better means of communication in our most primitive times. Let's use it! Abbreviations have their place, but now are being misused to a degenerative point. OG now means original? Was orig. too much to type? Oh, did you think I meant original gangster, the old comic strip, or any number of other things? And, an abbreviation taking the first letter and a random one from the middle of the word? Is that communication? Why not just go ahead and say what you need to say to be sure you are understood? How hard is that? Please please answer. I need an opinion NOW!

Larry, In my opinion that is a very good point. But who asked you?

Re: Asking for opinions and then getting mad

BLUF. Bottom line up front. I don't have a problem with icons. The interweb is kind of tricky. We all have a certain amount of snobbery when it comes to things we don't like. The military uses acronyms a fair amount. They typically break it down for you though, so that everyone is on the same page. Medical field is the same way except they don't break it down for you. I'm married to a R.N. Registered Nurse who also happens to be a teacher. She speaks over my head a lot. Mostly because I ain't that bright. I would not blame the dumbing down of America on acronyms. I blame it on dumb Americans. Perhaps I are one.

I can form and even type full sentences. I choose not to many times. That does not make me illiterate whatsoever. School, non caring parents, drugs etc make those lovely craigslist ads. I am lazy, plain and simple.. comes from chat rooms and social media IMHO

Nah.... according to my K20 (yeah, it sometimes talks to me), OG means Olive Green.

As to illiteracy or at least the dumbing down of society, I have long blamed a lack of reading. Many of us don't even read magazines, let alone books. If all we ever read is a computer screen filled with stuff keyed in by someone else who doesn't read..... well, how are we supposed to learn how to string words & sentences together? Yes, I realize I am the pot calling the kettle black!
