On a side note, the Borgeson joints/shafts are a little pricey, but are very high quality. True, they don't come with cool decals like the ART stuff, but the joints are engraved with the Borgeson name and part number

Yes, that is correct, but at least you can steer the truck now.

XXL just left my house and is headed back home to Wichita. Hmmm.... did I remember to tighten the lug nuts??

Slammed67 I like the 72 bumper. I had a 68 stepside with a 72 bumper on it. Lookes cool with all 4 parking lights hooked up.

I does look very nice. I have to avoid two roads around here as it is cause my truck is low, and it's only a 3.5/5 inch drop. The city has decided to put these monsters of speed bumps around town and I coudln't imagine trying to dodge everything driving something that low. It is awesome though.

Small update... apparently the oil pan doesn't do well when it comes in contact with concrete. (Who'da thought?)

Anyway, ancillary to the whole oil-pan-too-low issue, it turns out that getting the oil pan off is utterly impossible with the crossmember mod. I still haven't figured out just why/how the crossmember would be an issue, but the fact is, we are in the process of pulling the transmission and flywheel to get the oil pan off so I can fix the leak.

What kind of oil pan you got? Is it a low profile one? How tall is it? I just bought a Hamburger one for mine witch is only 7" deep. But I need to make my own motor mounts. I will make sure mine clears the ground!

Stock 250ci pan. Not too many choices in the inline 6 world

Hey XXL;

What size tire, wheel, and backspacing are you using on your ride for the back wheels? I am in the process of getting my frame mods worked-out and want to stuff the largest tire I can under there, but do not want to tub the box. Also, I am going with approximately 6" of drop in the back for ride-height. Lowering the rear on mine even more won't be that much of a problem as the main body of the corvette IRS stays put! I want the front to go low, but I don't think I want to go to the work that you guys have done to chop the crossmember.

Sweet ride though! I can't wait till mine is back in some semblence of driveability.

If you're doing a stepside and you're going to try to tuck them inside the fender, you've got VERY tight margins to deal with (unlike the fleetside folks). Truck has 17x8's all the way around, all with 5" bs. The rears are then offset with a 5/16" spacer. Any less and it would eat up the tires on the inside edge. Any more and it'd be all over the fender lip when dropped.

So what is the rear tire size XXL? 255s? I think that I can fit 275s, but I think that they will hit the outer lip. Guess I will have to see when I get the IRS all mocked-into position.

255/55-17 is as wide as I could go.

I'm curious to why the crossmember mod effects the postion of the engine? Would it not raise with the crossmember? If not couldn't you shim the motor mounts higher?

I don't think the x-member mod had anything to do with the pan clearance. The height of the top of the x-member where the engine stands mount didn't change. I don't think the original design allowed for easy pan removal.

I had a Summit 7 quart oil pan on my blazer and it never hit the ground. It didn't hang lower than the bottom of the crossmember
