GMC Jim,now that`s a good one!Thing is,can you make one that works like the signs at the station,so you can change it every other day?The one thing that has ALWAYS burned my butt is,how can it come all the way from East Jesus to America for one price, and be $.30+/- in 5 miles?Or across the road in some places. It ain`t just OPEC or the US oil companies,it`s your friendly local merchant.

I use a Hyundai as my daily driver, when I first got it (2002) I averaged spending $35 a week with all the driving I do, now my average is closer to $85+ a week. I couldnt even fathom the idea of some of these people and their SUV's or even driving a new regular size 1/2 Pickup possibly getting 13-19mpg on the highway doing the same amount of driving I do.

It's got to make you wonder about some of the polls that are going on out there about people not changing their driving habits or their preferences towards buying those big SUV's that only get 6-10 city & best at maybe 16-17 on the highway. As well as the last poll on Bush's popularity dropping attributing it to the Schiavo issue & other non related issues, certainly wouldnt have anything to do with him being an oil man & gas prices going where they are going as well as our overall economy.

I dont think a lot of people yet have realized the overall impact that this is going effect. I recently visited a well known company who specializes in Harley Parfermance Produsts & service, the company has been in bussiness 15 years & I have been dealing with them for at least 10 of them. They have never had in all the years had dead time, Dec, Jan, & Febuary they had to take a loans to make payroll vs laying people off, they where absolutely dead for 3 months. Generally there is at least a 3 month waiting list to get in to the shop to have work done, excluding maintenance & regular repairs. There electric bill went up $600 a month due to rising fuel cost, They are also a dealer of Bourget Motorcycles and the shipping rate of these bikes doubled ($325 to $650) on them due to rising fuel cost. They also make some of their own products like Cylinder Head, Cases, Cylinders, etc. Because these products are made out of Aluminum the price of these chucks of billet have also increased due to fuel cost.

As individuals like you & me we only see small parts of increases nothing like the companys who are going to really see these types of increases, but it is going to flow down to us. Already a price increase of stamps is on the aggenda, look for our taxes to increase due to the governments spending on need fuel for thier vehicles etc due to fuel cost. I think it will be an interesting summer because of these risng fuel cost, lay offs, company's going out of bussiness because their will be a some what major rise of inflation due to the ripple effect of fuel prices, people wont be spending the extra bucks on some of the extras but focusing on paying our heat bills for next summer, our electric bills & putting gas in our vehicles so we can just go to work and as well the rising food prices that we will be paying because after all it has to be trucked in as well.

Not really tring to sound negative here just what I see happening due to all of this.

well.

Ya know.. People can use public transpotation as an alternate or car pooling but some people like to be independant. A couple of years ago I had to drive to Indio Ca from Riverside. It was 101 miles to work and 101 miles back home. In my ("wish i hadn't of sold it") Honda Accord, it cost me around $15.00 bucks a day round trip. Then I bought my truck and drove to work once..only ONCE! I literally watched in amazement as my gas gauge dropped
during my 1 and a half hour drive to and then from work. It cost me 36 bucks that day just to drive out to the god forsakin desert and enjoy basking in the 117 degree sunshine. I guess it was better to drive for 90 minutes straight with no traffic for 100 miles then to drive to Orange County (40 miles away)
in massive 5am traffic in the same 1hour and a have. That's just another great trade of California. Bad Traffic, high gas , and rediculous registration fees.

My work truck is dual fuel (LPG and gas) and I love it, the bonus for us is that we are a propane distributor and we buy propane in large quantities so we get a real good deal on it.

hey we resemble that out here

At 3am this morning on my way to work gas was 2.78 for the cheap stuff. On the way home who knows. It seems to be changing by the hour here. Glad I only work 2 miles from home so a round trip of 4 miles day. if I cut thru the Desert its only 2 miles round trip. So really not worth putting A/C on. All the other driving I'll grab the wife's rice burner, where dark sun glasses and not tell anyone my name.

I drove from Atlanta to Orkney Springs, VA on Friday - then from Orkney Springs, VA over to DC, then down to Atlanta again.

Prices varied - Several places in NC were 2.29/2.39/2.50, cheapest gas I saw was in SC at 2.15/2.25/2.35 and that was at a Flying J plaza or something. Damn sure I stopped and filled up there. It only lasted me to Atlanta though

Ahh! I was in such a hurry to get up there, I didn't even think to post about it and see who I could hang out with along the way.

You know, as I was passing through the VA/NC area, I saw one of the nicest silver-metallic LWB 67-72 C-10's going northbound on a flatbed tow truck. It was SWEET.

Wish I could have snapped a picture.

Something else - When driving around the Woodstock/Orkney Springs area, I saw several '69 and '70 Chevelles totally going to waste sitting in people's yards/farms. Made me really sad. My dream car and these people just let them rot in a field. I was pissed!

I know what you mean. My uncle has a cabin just outside of Woodstock. The last time I was over there I saw a few 71-72 Blazer's going to pot...
