i've found though, that these factory bucket seats look good, but are not very comfortable...the drivers seat is the only one that reclines...and it isnt far engough to be comfortable...the passenger seat is stationary

squint, those seats look awesome! If I may, can you get some pics of the seats only, perhaps outside where the lighting is better? Your seats pics would be great for the article.

bigarmzz, I have heard from more than a few people that the low back seats are not as comfortable as the high backs...that is why I chose highbacks for my truck. I also had high backs in my 77 Blazer, and they were just fine comfort wise. BUT, each person has their own preferences.

The factory bucket seats in my '70 is the same way. Only the driver side can be adjusted. As you said " " Do not know what GM was thinking if they were thinking. The buckets in the '70 is comfortable to me anyway. I love them. Looks great too. Who's seats are these? Are they covers from one of the parts catalogs for our trucks?

Might want to add this:

1973-1985 - drivers had slide, but passenger buckets were stationary (Blazer/Jimmy had tip feature)
1986 was the FIRST year for the buckets to recline and/or slide in the Blazer/Burb (not in Pickups)

There were 3 versions of consoles
1973-1976 (77) - buckle slot and cubby in middle
1877-1980 - Cup holders with cubby in middle
1981-1991 - Cup holders with narrow cubby across front ( I can get you a better pic tonight Jeff)

Were buckets available in pickups all the way to 87? For some reason, I thought Chevrolet discontinued them around 81/82.

Sorry, I was being a little generic on the listing.
As on going research goes, from what I have gathered as of today, 1982 was the last year of it being IN a pickup, 1981 being the last year for the option (read: phased out).

I wouldn't doubt that you could GET it them later as supply for the mounts dwindled. I am very confident however that the 1986 and 1987 models didn't have buckets due to change in the buckets themselves with the recline feature being added. Don't quote me on this though.

So is it safe to say the relining buckets will not bolt up to the older stock pickup bucket tracks?

You know, I haven't even thought about checking that, but I could check seeing I still have the 78's buckets that came out of my Jimmy. Although, I think the mounting is different, but I will check when I get the pic off the home computer.

Sure.. I will snap a couple more shots tonight.. I am going to go pick up some metal to build me some brackets tonight. ..

These seats are in awsome shape.. I cant wait to get them in..

The center console needs some TLC.. but I dont think i will be using it for long.. I think i will build a custom one to incorporate my sub and my B&M shifter..

I'l post them pics later on tonight..

When most put in the bucket seats, do they put carpet behind the seat on the back wall?

yeah, you almost have to....it just dont look right if ya dont..just a big open space above the console

Thanks, I will be putting bucket seats in mine soon and thought is might need carpet back there.

A friend of mine carpeted the back wall of the cab when he installed buckets. He said that it cut down on the road noise, so it might be a good idea anyway.

I purchased a rear cab panel made by Roddoors from Chris. It is abs plastic and covers the entire back wall AND corners. I will be upholstering it with the same color fabric as the floor.

When I installed buckets in my '84 I wanted to keep my corner speakers so I made a panel. Bought the stuff at Lowes and covered it with the same material as my door panel inserts and my seat inserts. Total cost was less than $25.00 and it took about 4 hours. Can't think of the name of that stuff but it looks like really thin plywood. One side looks like wood and the other side is a smooth white finish. PM your email address and I'll send you some pics.

Yes and Yes

IIRC, the only holes you can re-use are the front outer holes and I think the rear outer drivers side hole. You will also need to drill four holes in the floor for the console.
