Re: 3 car garage
I built my small shop in the only area I had space....only problem is if we get 4 or more inches of rain VERY FAST it sits in an area that will flood a bit......I designed it so at some point I could raise the floor. One of my hauling buddies had some material left over from a demo job so he brought it over and we spent the later part of this week placing it in the shop. It ended up being about 360 tons of broken concrete. By the end of next week I should have all the walls complete and the floor ready for concrete......

Re: 3 car garage
Doing great. I have no complaints about it. The person I got the idea from has had his shop 5 years or so longer than mine, so 15+ years and holding up great.

We have LOTS of shelving in our two-car garage because when you're trying to work on something there's not much room on the ground. We have a workbench with cabinets against one wall, shelves top to bottom on the other, and two toolboxes to move around. Stuff still ends up on the floor.

Re: 3 car garage
For what it is worth, plan on spending at least 13k thru 16k for a decent 30X36 Shop. I used a steel building by Nucor Building Systems because of the price. The material list for wood building was 12.5 - 13k here in my part of Idaho. The same building in Denver would have been about 9k. Go figure. The Nucor building was about $9600 and was designed like I wanted, studs every 2' on centers, a much more useable building in my book. The cement work was very expensive, but was done very smooth. One reason for the higher cost of cement work was a city ordinance for full 39" footings, that added a lot. Still working on insulation but total cost for everything should be about $13,000. All work except cement was done by myself and friends.

Re: 3 car garage
This is from a guy with a 3 car attached garage with no loft or high ceiling.
My wife insists on parking our cars in the garage. 1-Prioritize is the key. Do one thing, finish it, and move on to the next. I've learned by experience. If you start more than one thing, nothing gets done, because there is no room. 2-Do all your painting and sanding outside. 3-Decide what tools you can live with and what you can live without. I would like a torch and welder setup. Bottom line they'll take up too much space for how little they'll get used. I can typically haul stuff my dad's or a buddies to torch off what I need. I can always borrow a mig when the time comes too. 4-Buy a big enough compessor. Don't try and deal with the 30 gallon jobs. Yes they take up a little more space, but it's worth it. 5-Find another place for all your woodworking/home improvement tools. 6-All the kids toys and lawn furniture need another place to be. That's just a few of my tips. |
