Re: The Wrecker Is Home
Oh yeah that is for my dad. he likes em alot. I rember seeing it when you were showing off the slammed dually. We are more into restoring but your truk looks like a beast. now if i had a picture of the grill I would take a shot at the year. My dad likes the 56 because of how the grill is diffrent and the gauge cluster has the spedo and then the fuel and temp are seperate with that chrome trim. Anyways sorry to be off topic. If you do the frame swap that is sure to be one nice wrecker!

Re: The Wrecker Is Home
Hate to put a burst in your bubble---but you may want to check out the PTO drives. My 480 twin boom has the PTO drive on the pass side. So with a pass drive t-case, it makes it a little difficult to drive the winches. That's why they used a 500 on the 4wd chevys

Re: The Wrecker Is Home
I guess you'll have to see if you can move the bracket assy. holding the drive at the winches to the other side of the rear driveshaft to catch the 4wd pto shaft. That would be the easiest and cheapest thing I can think of at the moment

Re: The Wrecker Is Home
Your yard looks alot like mine...lol.You could swap in a 4wd (maybe 2wd also) turbo 400.I would have to look and see about the splines,I cant remember off hand.I would offer to come help, but it was a chore driving up there to get that bed a few weeks ago...lol

Re: The Wrecker Is Home
Here is some info I had stored on my hard-drive Rick...the turbo 400 wont directly bolt on according to this....But,it could be done
205 Input Trans 10 spline male SM465 4 speed 27 spline male TH350 Auto 32 spline female, (short) TH400 32 spline female, (long) Later model 4 speed? (Not sure if these are still the SM465 and the "long" female input may have also been behind some TH400 transmissions? Not to familiar with the "long" input. Here's some more: the 10 spline and 27 spline male input 205's use a smaller input bearing than the 32 spline female input. So, for example, if you were going to run a 4 speed, (10 spline), or a TH350 trans, (27 spline), the 32 spline input 205 cannot be used. You can't change the input to the smaller bearing inputs because the hole in the case for the bearing is to big. Now on the other hand, if you were to go the other way around, you can always have the smaller bearing hole machined out to fit the larger input bearing.
