Re: Where did you find your first truck????

$400 67 C10 lwb 283/glide/12 bolt 3.73 from a neighbor in 1991,truck was cherry original with the only exception being it had a 69 GMC front clip.sold it a year later and regretted the hell out of it.
I had a 68 C10 lwb 327/glide/12 bolt 3.73 in 1997 that I bought from a friend's son.after some paint and interior and a 468/th400 transplant I sold it for a ridiculous amount of money a year and a half later when my Daughter was born.I liked the 68 alot but I'm obsessed with the small back window 67's....love em'
I currently have a $285 e-Bay score 67 lwb GMC project (small back window)

Cool Re: Where did you find your first truck????

I was about 6 years old when my dad brought the 67 home and according to him i went up to it jumped in the driver seat and claimed it. Around 1990 he gave it to me for getting out of high school with a diploma he gave it to me and then i proceded to thrash the hell out of it like a dumbass. after toasting the 283 putting a 350 in and breaking that i parked it for about 5 years. well it survived with the encouragement of my then fiance now wife its back on the road as my recreational weekend driver. I am still in the process of trying to get it as nice as i got it from my dad.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????

my first truck was a 2wd 77 step side that i got from my uncle for $700. had a fairly fresh 350, headers and 3" duals with big shinny chrome tips. It was painted rattle can black primer and was a blast. one of the more entertaining things i did with it was get going toward a bridge at about 20mph, turn off the key while still in gear, let the heads fill with gas (and some out the exhaust) then turn the key back on when under the bridge. BOOM!! with 5' flames out each side.

my first 67-72 was found on my way to go look at another 67-72. the other one was selling for $5500. on the way we saw a red lwb with no rust sitting in a trailer park. I went up to the door and asked if it was for sale or not and the guy sold it to me for $2500. pics are in the link in my sig.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????

I wanted to restore my dad's 1971 C10 that he parked in the late 80's but that didn't work out. So, in 2002 I bought a '72 on Ebay hoping to fix it up a little at a time. Unfortunately it was really rough and the Houston cops towed it (I had it parked on a side street with no tags). I called over and over and it was literally two and a half months before they realized they towed it. By that time this $500 truck had $1500 worth of storage fees so I told them to keep it. I'm still severely pissed about that to this day and there's not a thing I can do about it.

This January I found another truck on Ebay. Luckily this one was only about 100 miles from me so I went to check it out and decided to buy it. It's a 1969 C10. I like Ebay because of the sheer volume of trucks you are able to find on there. You can find combinations of options that you wouldn't be able to easily find otherwise.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????

got my first truck a year ago. It was my ramp truck. Bought it for $700. Been sitting in a farmers field for 10 years with tall grass all around it and it was full of RATS! The guy said it had been for sale for a while but that nobody could find it. While I was looking it over and talking to the guy, another person that was coming out to look at it called him on the phone and said he couldn't find his place or the truck and was lost. The guy just started laughing and told him he was too late anyways.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????

I found my girl on a small farm buried in grass near Coloma, CA. Facless(no front clip) six banger exposed, with a sunflower growing through the bed. The perfect busted ranch truck.

The owner threw in a complete 1969 front clip, wet sanded, and a SBC.

500 Bucks!

Re: Where did you find your first truck????

I was 15 and bugging my parents for my 1st vehicle. Then one day it just showed up. My father was a salesman at the local chevy dealer and my truck was traded in there. It was a 72 chevy 1/2 ton lwb v8 auto ps,pb with factory cab lights. Good truck , lots of fun but for some stupid reason I sold it. That started the addiction!!!!My 3rd one was an accident. My buddy was looking at buying a chevette so I went with him to look at it. The chevette was sold but the guy had a 71 gmc for sale. Strong 350 auto, ps....all mine for $350!!!!

Re: Where did you find your first truck????

Bought my 68 SWB from a girlfriend's aunt here in OK. I had just been assigned to Ft Sill as a new officer in 1982 and met her about a year later. Was really more into Corvettes, but knew of the truck for the entire year we dated. I wanted to break up with her, but still wanted the truck, so made the deal, then dumped her. Still have the truck...wow...that's almost 23 years ago. Truck is in great shape, red /white Custom cab, 327 w/3 speed on the column. The rest of the story is that back in the early 80s here in OK, I turned down offers of less than $500 to buy very nice long wide bed pickups. They were dirt cheap back then.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????

Where:
Sport Chevrolet near Silver Spring,MD on the "OK" used car lot in`73.My friend`s dad was friends with "Buzz" the sales manager and he was hookin`all of us buddies up with some great deals and more importantly, financing.I liked these trucks since they came out and built every model kit that AMT and MPC came out with.

What:
`72 CustomDeluxe/10 Highlander.I liked it cuz it was short and yellow(ochre).I think someone traded it for the new-style`73 or just traded in every year. This truck was like brand new,not a scratch in the bed.307/3spd,solid paint,posi,3.73s,a/c,sport bumper...$2,200.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????

I found mine when I was a truck tire salesman. Made a call to a family run farm in Maine and saw the '69 C-10 in a barn. Had been off the road since mid 1980's. I paid $1200.00 for it, and did a cab-on restoration. Truck was in pretty good shape when I bought it, the owner had sprayed the undercarraige with kerosine and coated it with dirt every year. It was a biotch to clean, but worth the effort when all was said & done. It was a 1 owner truck when I bought it, came from a farm, so I dubbed it (and my screen-name) "FARMTRUCK"

Re: Where did you find your first truck????

while working at D&M auto in caly, customer came in for work, I had to test drive it and after I was done, I told the owner , that if this brother in law of yours ever wants to sell this truck , I would be interested, about four months later I was purchasing it, I couldnt believe all I had to do was show interest in it, and boom it was mine, witha little cash I have owned it now for 23 years, and have three others that have come and gone.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????

I bought my complete '68 Short Step right here off the board for $800.00 back in '03. The board member gave up on it and decided to pursue his Jeep build. I was stationed at Randolph AFB,TX, and he was up in Corsicana,Tx. I always wanted a '68 Stepper. I remember riding with Pops in his metal flake blue one when I was little down in Bradenton, FL.~~Here's to you Pop!!!!

Re: Where did you find your first truck????

I happened to mention to a friend of mine who was a farmer a bit older than me that I wanted to build a 67-72 next, I had barely finished my 86. He said he knew where there was yellow this 68 that this farmer he knew had bought new and was just sitting. He stopped in to look when he was by there a couple weeks later and there were 2 of them side by side, the yellow 68 and a two tone blue 71. The old guy said his brother left the blue one there about ten years ago. I bought the 71 and my friend bought the 68.

Re: Where did you find your first truck????

My uncle had 6 67-72 models and countles other c-10's but I was fortunate to start driving one when I was 18 that belonged to my grandmother. It had a straight six 70 shortbed and then i knew it was a bad truck. The first c-10 I bought was a 63 stepside with a 454 and it ran like a bat out of hell. My next truck was a 64 gmc with a 64 chevy front end small window...sweet. Black cherry and one many car shows for best 60's truck....but my favorite is now my 68 big window stepside....just like the one I drove when I was 18.....

Re: Where did you find your first truck????

Great thread! Got my truck from south of San Antonio for $750 with a swapped 350 and automatic tranny with a new flowmaster dual exhaust system on it. Just got some shorty hugger headers off ebay for $73 shipped. I did have to pay $650 to have the truck shipped to me in cold ass Minnesota, but I think it was worth it. last pic is what is comin' :
