Re: 4X4 Crewcab Stepside Project..............
I'm wondering about the tranny also, is it stock? I've never heard of a 4 speed with overdrive. Is it granny in first. also liljon 285, I changed my shift column to a floor shift, and got a new smooth column piece from speedway parts. thanks bob

Re: 4X4 Crewcab Stepside Project..............
If it were the "granny" or compound-low tranny.
I had asked about a tranny like this a while back and got lots of good info, but can't seem to find it now. I believe I was told it is an A35, or A435 or something like that. IIRC, it was used in a lot of Chrysler product and in some late 70's to early 80's chev/GMC trucks. It was only used in the 1/2 tons and I think it was only used with 6 cylinders. I think I got the most info in the drivetrain forum so you might check there

The vision you have of the completed project is terrific. A real one-of-a-kinder. I can't imagine the amount of work and patience it's going to take to complete the project and I salute your gumption..............

Re: 4X4 Crewcab Stepside Project..............
Hey OJOE (or anyone else that can answer this), I am interested in a crew-cab swb but would prefer to have a 4x4.
Doing the frame mod as you described sounds easy enough but I was wondering about doing something similar to the front end. I have access to an '85 2wd 3/4ton crew (bad tranny) and was wondering about sectioning in the front part of a 4x4 frame to make it a 4x4. Or more to the point, I have an '85 GMC 4x4 swb as a donor and was curious if I could more or less split the swb frame in the middle and section in the crew frame to fill the difference? Would this be too much sectioning of the frame? Any input would be great. Thanks.
