Re: look what I found hiding behind the shed!

For being so straight and nice on the outside...under the hood is a real untouched mess...is that white? I see a potential nightmare on the driver side of the firewall...that kind of rust can be the death of the cab! It killed my small block Longhorn!!!!!! I would look at the rain gutter and window seal...that is where that water will come from.

big.mike...I was going to edit my comments but then realized that So Cal is no longer in the Western US...it is Northern Mexico...LOL! I know San Diego and LA prices are high but Northern CA (North of Sacramento) are very reasonable.

Re: look what I found hiding behind the shed!

I don't think you could go very wrong for 1200 to 1500. But rare or not, don't under estimate how much it'll cost to get it running and looking well enough to keep or sell. May offer a little more maybe if he'll start it and drive it onto the pavement where you can check it out and look under it more carefully, and if he'll promise you the 4WD running gear all works well.

Because you're the motivated buyer here more than he's a motivated seller, the ball is in your court.

One option is offer him 1200. If he refuses, walk away and let him sit on it another 6 months or so until your projects are done. If you don't want to take that risk, make the highest reasonable offer you (and your purse) are willing to make. If it's still too low, just walk away (after leaving him your phone number) and don't look back. When/if he's ever motivated to sell, perhaps he'll call you then he'll be more willing to haggle a little.

No way would I offer more than $2K for any unrestored, non-running 6-cylinder.

JMO.

Re: look what I found hiding behind the shed!

What I see is a truck that someone with a brain should honestly attempt to buy and then give it a new life. That is a keeper with a lot of potential, somebody needs to get on it, and soon. If you're not gonna go for it, then allow someone else to, I'm sure there are plenty of guys around here that would love to get their hands on it. Makes me dream about Mudder's truck, LOL!

Re: look what I found hiding behind the shed!

But....The bad thing about the 67-68s is the rear suspension is different so you would be in a long search to find a lift that works. So,if you want one to lift, you might not want it.But for the price, you can have custom springs made or convert to the 69-72 4wd rear suspension

Hypocrites(sp) the lot of you. How many times has someone sold you something for far less than what its worth? You took it... How many times have we heard that ol' saying, " I'm going to fix it up"...PLEASE, it's been sitting for years by his own admission. I say, buy it and do whatever you want with it. It NEEDS a home and not to be junked and sitting out in the pasture.

Rant...I hate it when people say..."Make me an offer!" That means they have an anticipation that it is worth lots of money and are not interested in selling unless you offer them an unreasonable amount. All you can do is insult them, which I usually happy to do with an offer that makes it interesting for me...like $200! If they get indignant and say that is robbery, I just tell them that I have purchased trucks for $50 and have gotten some for free! You asked for an offer and I gave you one! Now tell me what you really want!

"Make me an offer" is a "no win" proposition in my opinion!

BTW...OUTSTANDING FIND!!!!!!!!!

Now I agree with this 100%. The ones that really kill me is the one not for sale cause I am going to restore it some day....then 3 years later you find it in the junk yard.

I like the make me an offer...you make the offer and they get upset. One woman had a 70 Malibu. Been sitting in the same spot since 73. Sank into the ground. Critters had destroyed the car. She said make me an offer. I said 100.00. She said no...its a new car! I will take 4500.00 for it. This was in 91. the car still sits right there hasnt moved. Well its has...further into the ground. you cant open the doors on it now.

Re: look what I found hiding behind the shed!

My dad was a believer in the following saying that he had..."First one to mention money loses money". He was notorious for low-ballin' anyone he tried to deal with....offered less money than any sane person would take to do the jobs he needed done. He never paid me anything for the work I did, not that I did it and was lookin' for him to pay. I did it because it needed to be done.

So, if the guy turned down $800, you're gonna end up giving him more money than it would take to buy it if he quoted you a price. It's "bidness".

I apologize if your offended, but I'm offended by people who do not seem to place any value on a classic except the dollar, there are many of us who love these old trucks for what they are not what we can sell them for. There are places for investors like Barret Jackson. When it only comes down to what it's worth then it's not a hobby and it ruins it for the little guy who really loves these trucks- parts become astronomical ,any beat-up truck is RARE and costly. We need to have a balence, the investors help to make it popular hence more parts available but we also need pure hobbiest to keep a good thing going. If I was a little rough I'm sorry but I come here for the hobby not the dollar. Joe

Re: look what I found hiding behind the shed!

I can't hardly believe some of the posts on here. Your telling me that you wouldn't buy a truck and sell for profit. How many people do i see on here parting out trucks for profit? I don't here any of you complaining when you buy a part you need.
IF YOU can get a good deal and make some money go for it...It almost sounds like some posts are made because they want to buy the truck cheap and don't want you to get it because they didn't find the deal....buy sell and use the money for your project that your working on.

I'd LOVE to find an old 67-72 all original shortbed 4x4 like that! I'd definately be doing some negotiating on that one until it became mine if it were me! Looks to me like it's in extremely good shape to boot, much better than anything you could ever hope to find around here! Definately a KEEPER!!!! ...Joe
