Anthony-

That rear crossmember is not supposed to be square in the frame. GM made it offset for the panhard bar. Jut remove the bracket or trim it to fit. You are measuring correctly... but it comes crooked from the factory.

Re: 63 stepside SWB project

That is what i thought, but wanted to make sure I was not doing anything wrong. So how far do i move the panhard bracket? If that is all I should hve it completed tomorrow. cause most of the hard work is done.

Re: 63 stepside SWB project

Anthony,

Looks like you're making good progress! I am waiting for the Kp components new rear setup for our year trucks! But I removed my rear coils, shocks, and panhard bar, as well as the rotted wood from my bed. I wanted the rear to go alittle lower. I just purchased new body and radiator rubber so i'm probably going to mount all my new front sheet metal to see if my 20's will tuck! I'll post some pics as soon as I get the front metal on! Keep up the good work. I love the progress!

Re: 63 stepside SWB project

Anthony,
I would remove that panhard bracket if I were you and just fab one again for the panhard bar to fit where you need it anyways after you center the rearend side to side. Are you sure the front crossmember is centered. You can use a "tracking string" to double check yourself after you get everything installed. If it were me doing it I would probably have "tacked" everything in place and put it all together and then if everything checked out, drill and bolt everything together.

Re: 63 stepside SWB project

Did you get the driver's side figured out? From what I can see... and what I have been told... there are holes in the c-nocth plate that will allow you to bolt the factory pan-hard bracket back into it's original spot, with bolts supplied in the kit. Hope this helps.

Yes, I hate rivet and it seems you always have to get more out. They must have been rivet happy at the plant.

Re: 63 stepside SWB project

Get some plate the same thickness as the cnotch and weld it to the frame and cnotch so that you have a level playing field there. Then just weld the damn bracket to the cnotch instead of trying to bolt it on there. DONE!

Re: 63 stepside SWB project

Thanks Dino and Tim. I finally recieved a universal part for the issue that i had with the rear panhandle bar bracket. Chase (Chops by Chase) from air ride has been working with me on this issue. I cannot give enough thanks for Nathan from portbuilt who has given me guidance and help through this whole project. Thanks again. I will have the complete setup done tonight and pics tomorrow of the complete install.

Re: 63 stepside SWB project

Looks great! The only suggestion I would make is replacing the Grade 5 bolts with grade 8, even if they were part of a kit. Just an observation...I am one for overkill I guess. Jerry

Re: 63 stepside SWB project

Well everyone here is the complete install with a few issues. The truck sit from the front of the frame 5 inches from the ground with stock spindles without the shocks hooked. The back is 12 inches from the ground deflated. I am having issues and have to call air ride with the rear mounts for the shocks. The shocks bold up great at the top but the bottoms do not fit. Also i need to see what angle i need for the panhandle bar Chase sent to me but besides that the rear is done. The front i need to ask Nathan on the shock mounts. I bought some but have no idea where they should go. I guess my brain is fried today, but here at the pics everyone.

Re: 63 stepside SWB project

This is with the front raised. I have to get a 1/4 to put in the bags so i can inflate them. so these are deflated bags you are looking at.
