Re: Ugly Betsy.

It's been half an hour since the post. It should be at least mocked up by now.

Re: Ugly Betsy.

The mock up started. It was a bigger job than I thought it would be. It required a little welding. Some bungee cords and gardening string. I thought that the hugger tubes would come as pictured wth the flanges on. It turns ot that they were not. I hammered a flare on both tubes with my ball peen and some patience. Nothing bolted up yet.

Re: Ugly Betsy.

I used the flat spot on the backside of my bench vice to pound the flange on the hugger tubes. I practiced on a scrap piece to find out if I was being realistic. Basically I found the right angle to start tapping on while using the ball of a ball/peen hammer. I simply aimed square the the edge of the vice plate and kept the hammer tapping while slowly rotating the pipe. After the basic shape was achieved I put the flange plate on and used it to tap on in the vice while rotating.

Re: Ugly Betsy.

I clamped up everything but the tail pipes. Made it quiet enough to rough tune. UB idled on her own for the first time since the new heads and cam went in. I was so freakin happy I shed a couple man tears. I took it on pavement for the first time in three years. Putted through first and second gear then stepped on it. It went squirrelly when I thought I was lugging it. When I came back I told the wife to take a spin. After I answered yes to the following questions we rolled. Is it street legal? Is it OK if there is no windshield? Is it insured? Do the turn signals work? Is it OK if there are no seat belts? Sillyoldwife was supposed to take a vid of our ride. Rather she took a short vid of me saying "Take your picture". It was kind of a disappointment but we had fun playing it over and over again like a rap song

280's a pretty big stick for a street 327. That carb is going to need to be done just right.

Nice truck, btw, good work!

[QUOTE=PhilaTruck;4009052]280's a pretty big stick for a street 327./QUOTE]

It's in honor of all the kids in HS that gave me grief for driving an under powered car. My former BIL is a mechanic and pretty savy with the chevys. Before I started this mess I was telling him about my plans. I told him which cam I wanted. He replied "It's going to be loud, idle rough and your gas mileage will suffer". I said "Perfect. That's exactly what I'm looking for."

What are you talkin' bout? I drove a slant six dart, the golden anniversary edition AND a Valiant, also slant 6, lousy brakes and all.

And those were the family cars.
