Had a old Pioneer for over 20 yrs. Made a delete out of stainless and got $94 Sony at W/mart with 4 speakers. Bought a radio box from Dan Fink Metal Works for $50.

Re: Show us your shaft-style stereo setups.

Ok my Kenwood showed up today. What are yall doing for speakers on a stock truck. I saw the kickpanels and other ideas? Don't want overhead console and don't want to cut doors.

If you've moved your gas tank out from behind the seat, there are some nice examples on the board of speakers mounted there.

For a stock truck, speaker boxes underneath the seat (pictured is one of mine for a 6x9 that I've started)?

Re: Show us your shaft-style stereo setups.

Pictured is the radio I'm putting into mine. It is a FM stereo cassette that uses its own speakers so the original AM is still fully functional with its original speaker. I will be putting 6x9 speakers under the bench seat in homemade boxes for the underdash FM unit.

This setup will be cheap ($15 total investment), no cutting is required on the truck, and I retain the factory look of the AM radio. The underdash unit slides out, and I got a second mounting bracket so I can use it in both trucks if I desire.

Re: Show us your shaft-style stereo setups.

I'm thinking that one thing I can get done while I'm here in Japan is an upgrade on the old AM radio from the Blazer. Use the front, but gut it and add an up to date tuner with an aux input and mp3 plug for the front for the Ipod or whatever. Course I'll have to take it out next time I get to go home for a visit in a few months. I'll post up pics if it ever actually pans out.

Re: Show us your shaft-style stereo setups.

well, Idon't have an official review yet, but so far I am EXTREMELY impressed with mine. I had my original AM/FM gutted and retro'd with the updated tuner, Ipod input, etc. Gary Tayman at Tayman Electrical www.taymanelectrical.com did it for me. Right now I have junk Kraco 5-1/4" speakers, but the radio functions marvelously! and very powerful. i can barely move the knob without blowing my ears and the Kracos! LOL! I can't wait to get good speakers and proper amps. this thing is gonna rock. Oh, and if you want to see what it looks like, just look at any factory am/fm radio in the dash. that's it! and I don't think it will get stolen very easily either...

Hey CentralCoaster, I read both this page and chevelles.com too. I almost responded to your question over there. But since my photo is of my stereo in my truck, I thought I'd post it here.

I got this one at JC Whitney in the last 5 years. It was less than $100. I guarantee it sounds as good to me as anybody's $1000 dash hacking set-up. Especially when I'm tearing down the slab at 70 mph.

Looked in the JC Whitney cataloge and didn't see this one. Is it a "Jensen"? They don't seem to carry those any more.
I sure need a new stereo!!!

Re: Show us your shaft-style stereo setups.

I went down to Napa and bought a I think its a Jensen AM/FM/Cassette player cost me about 35-40 bucks. sounds pretty good. When I first put it in I had it connected to the original single 6x8 or 6x9 in the dash, but switched it to 2 Audiovox speakers (bought them from a friend and they still worked after sitting in her old work van for a few years) under the seat. Sounds really good to me. I think whatever type of stereo/speakers you put in your truck will sound good considering the size of the "theater" they are gonna be playing in.

It has been a while. It is a Jensen. It came with two round speakers that most folks cut into the doors. I cut a piece of light sheet metal to fit in the stock, mono speaker holder. Then I drilled two holes in it to hold the speakers. Other than adding that speaker holder, the whole works fits in the factory locations with no other mods.

SOME DAY when I get around to installing the 72 Blazer tank I have, I'm going to remove the stock seat tank and put two 6x9s behind the seat.

Re: Show us your shaft-style stereo setups.

Thanks.Mine came (from Orig.Owner.) with door speakers. I'm happy with these.
Are you sure it was JC WHitney you got yours from? What is the model number?
With a recommendation like yours,I've got to find one or a similar one.

WorkingLonghorn, I hope you're still subscribed to this thread.
I found the box my stereo came in. I usually toss the order papers in there but in this case I did not.
The box says it is a "Jensen CP-226". When I get on the google and search for that I get nothing.
The door on the cassette deck says CR225X. When I search for that I get hits. Some of the hits on the google are new ones for sale.

I'm guessing the cp226 is a package because it came with two speakers and an adapter kit to make those speakers fit 6x9 cut-outs.

I hope this helps.
