I live near a HUGE barn. Unfortunately, the name of it is Auburn University and there are no trucks in there!

Re: Barn Hunting In Tn

I've heard of this barn hunting...
I found a 72 Shortbox Stepside factory A/C truck in a barn (it literally had cow sh*t smeared down the pass door right where it was slightly bowed inwards) it was missing the motor & auto trans, it was a factory two-tone yellow and white... it was cool...
Anyway... this is a true story...
This was just outside a small town here in South Dakota. I went back through that town a few years later, Get this... the truck was still there in the same place, guy still wanted $600.00 for it, but...
THE BARN WAS GONE... the truck as not moved, nothing was different except the barn had been removed from the area...
So, I'm guessing some HUNTERS must have waited 'til just the right time of "Barn Hunting Season" cause they got one...

hahaha... this story is true in the fact that I originally looked at this truck to buy it in 1999, then was back in that area in about 2002, truck was there, barn around it was gone... it was so eerie. I keep picturing those tornado pictures where some stuff is demolished and some other thing perfectly untouched. I guess someone from down south (Oklahoma if I remember correctly) bought all the barn wood for a resturant interior they were building somewhere...
I wonder if that truck is still there....hmmmmmmm?

Re: Barn Hunting In Tn

I cant believe people hide good stuff in barns. There was a 1963 Z06 vette on ebay a few months back that was pulled from a barn in 2006, it had been parked in the 70's. This makes sence right? It's like, lets take this nice 1993-2001 vett and put it in the barn. Why drive it or sell it, lits hide it in a barn. I cant believe people do stuff like this.

Re: Barn Hunting In Tn

nice find
I once went to my buddies house when we were in 8th grade, now were in 10th, and he said in this old barn there was his dads old camaro and I asked him questions and said he knew nothing about it. So we go there and a 67 RS/SS carmaro was sitting there, had original 350 with doulble-hump heads, turbo 350, was 4-speed car, and 12-bolt posi. Still sitting there, they said they will rebulid it sometime.

Correct! That is how you switch between tanks. My truck has three tanks..the one in the cab and a saddle tank on each side.

Re: Barn Hunting In Tn

Nice find.

Barn find story:
I went on a trip out west last fall to pick up some truck parts. The guy I bought from had 3 barns.(a member here) No cows, but lots of horses. Like in horsepower. Every barn was full of old cars and trucks. It was totally unbelievable. This guy had his own classic car and truck show. God bless him for saving all these vehicles.

And yes, he had a 1991 Z71 chevy truck that had not ever been driven, except for home from the dealer.
So yes, it's possible to find anything in a barn.

I hide stuff in my grandpa's barn all the time. I have a 1928 Ford Roadster in there with 50 miles on it that I built in HS, and a 64 Mercury Comet Convertable right next to it... Havent touched them in years. Barns are a good place to hide sentamental things. People won't ever bug you about them

mint...I know what you mean about people just parking cars/trucks. A neighbor of my sisters has a mid 80's chevy with a utility bed on it behind his shop 9two new trucks in front). I walk over and ask him if he's planning on doing anything with it. He answered with a no. I asked if he would consider selling it, again I got the "no". So I guess he's just gonna let it sit there and rot.

Re: Barn Hunting In Tn

ive got lots of barn finds or feild find stories and my dad has even more then me, my dad used to bike from the suburbs of minneapolis mn out to wisconsin and south dakota to our relatives before he got his license and he learned that farms tend to hide things in old barns so he started askin around small towns putting adds in news papers and just keeping his eyes open we have maps of all three states with places marked with old cars and what they are my dad started doing this in 78 and we still do it to this day every few weeks or so we will hop in a truck and go for a drive with no reall point or purpose other then to see if we can score any new cars
3 weeks ago sitting next to a barn in north dakota we found a decent 72 blazer with very little paint and even less rust holes, we finaly caught the owner of the property after goin to a few neighbors to find out who owned the place and we were allowed to go take alook at it but he didnt know if he would sell it, its really a mix of parts but it would be a sweet truck, its 2 weel drive it has a roll cage , it has 6 bolt chevy truck rallies with bad tires on it the grill is a 72 but the fenders are without marker lights and we couldnt see any cover up marks inside our outside of the fenders, the egine was a beauty a 396 complet down to the air cleaner tranny was a 4 speed with a hurst shifter, it had low back bucket seats that are the same as the ones in my grandpas 67 nova ss and back buket seats looked to be the correct front seats for the blazer, left our number with the guy he said he would think about sellin it
barn hunting is the best

Seriously, what kind of tractor would you put a 327 in?

Do you mean big truck, as in pulling a large trailer, or a farm type tractor? I have heard of old Ford tractors with flat heads in them, but never anything with a small block Chevy.

Some had three, some had two and of course some had only the one in the cab. The saddle tanks were options I think and you could choose one or two.
