Re: 1977 Cheyenne Build
I'm going to leave it as is for now, it's the original engine with 147000 miles and apart from a little puff of white smoke on start up it runs fine, later I may go for a crate motor or do this one up.

Re: 1977 Cheyenne Build
They are 295x50x15 way too small for the rear, I will go up to 65s when I replace them.

Re: 1977 Cheyenne Build
great looking truck! It's cool seeing california plates in Nz..
im sure it will look even better when it's finished. Are you putting the trim back on the truck? or did you shave it?

Yes all the trim will go back on the truck apart from the filler trim on the tail gate.

Re: 1977 Cheyenne Build
Hi again all,
Well the truck now has paint on her and is in the process of being put back together, there is still a few things to tidy up like paint the chassis and inside the bed. Here are a few pics I snaped today. More to come as we get it back together.

Re: 1977 Cheyenne Build
Hi again, progress has been slow, but it is moving along, here is a few pics I snapped today. Still waiting for parts to arrive from the U.S. of A.
As you can see the truck is dirty and covered in dust, but at least it is coming together.

Re: 1977 Cheyenne Build
OK, time to resurrect this thread.
Progress has been slow the last few months, I have had to rely on others and have been let down every step of the way, the paint got scuffed in a few spots while in the trim shop then got charged $800.00 more than he first said it would cost, but he did do a good job. I took the truck in for its safety inspection and failed on lower ball joints, this is BS as it has only done 300 miles since the last one, it appears that they missed it last time, so once again I had to wait for others to fix it and as it has taken 6 weeks I now have to pay another $50 to have it inspected again, I am also waiting for a new windshield, the glass guy just fails to turn up at arranged times. That's enough moaning. On the up side I have lost my parking spot in my brothers shed, so he will have to get off his backside and get things done so I can get it out of there. Last week we got the front lowered but have to wait for the spring maker to work his magic on the rear springs to bring the bum down, I also fitted the new wheel arch trim, the rest of the side trim is is scheduled to be installed in two weeks time, enough rambling on to the pics. Interior pics to come.

Re: 1977 Cheyenne Build
As far as the rear end, what about longer shackles, then you wouldn't be moving the mounting points. You could put in the short bump stops from Energy Suspension. Just tell the inspector the old ones were worn and needed replacement after 30+ years.

Re: 1977 Cheyenne Build
Thanks Richard, could do that but at this stage I will wait and see what the spring maker comes up with, as this is 3/4 ton he will remove a few leafs and work on those that are left.

Re: 1977 Cheyenne Build
Probably ride better with a few leaves removed anyway.

Thanks, that Camaro is beautiful but I don't think I have seen it unless he takes it to the Kumeu show each year.

Re: 1977 Cheyenne Build
We cut the springs 1.5 coils, this put it on the bump stops so we will remove them and the towers then trim and remount them lower. the tyres are standard hight, so fill the wheel wells better than lower profile tyres.

Re: 1977 Cheyenne Build
The front tyres are Hankook 375x65x15 I think?
The rear tyres are Hoosier Pro Street 29x12.5x15

Re: 1977 Cheyenne Build
Looking sweet mate, I hate the fact that we have the same problems over here in Australia re:- lowering and engineering, drives me nuts, (should try to build a hot rod for full rego its next to near impossible unless you have at least $30,000 to spare)
