Re: Here goes Project: PEARL
Nice truck... hopefully you will be able to get back on her soon. I like the big window'ed '67's. I tried to get shoulder belts to work in mine but couldn't because of the rear tank. LMC makes a set now that fits for about 80 bucks, I think it would be worth it...

Re: Here goes Project: PEARL
go with the trim rings. the wheel color should be a good color to what ever you decide to paint the truck (ie: red wheels w/ blk truck type of deal...). hope all is well. i am going to try to go over to mahanian's house sometime this week. i have not heard from him in a while nor have i seen xtreme80 on here as well..??...

Re: Here goes Project: PEARL
I'd say trim ring....I guess that's the smaller version? Does it not cover the outer lip of the rim? I really like the way that looks. Any closeup pictures and info on those rings?

Re: Here goes Project: PEARL
Personally, I really like the rally-style rims with the rings... it fits these old rides! I was going to go with rally rims with rings, but then I got a deal on some newer rims that I couldn't pass up. (even cheaper than the rallys...) Keep us posted.

Re: Here goes Project: PEARL
Thx guys.
Been absent for a while b/c of school and the holidays. I need to get back out there and do some work on the ol' girl. I did finally get the rear wheels/tires on, but that's about it!

Re: Here goes Project: PEARL
Well, to be honest, I haven't made much progress on the old girl. The tranny went out soon after my last post. Finally got that fixed, was ready to take her to the exhaust shop and get that buttoned up so I could at least start driving her a bit. That's when the starter decided to die. Wanted to go with one of those newer style mini-starters, and it took me a few tries to get one that worked well. Somewhere around that point, I decided to hide all of my air management on the frame rail. I almost finished that when I bought my burb.
Now I'm focused on getting the burb where I want it. Then maybe I can get back to work on Pearl and give her the love she deserves!

Re: Here goes Project: PEARL
Details on the mini starter? I haven't tried yet to figure out the two smaller wires to one yet.

Re: Here goes Project: PEARL
Quote:
As far as the starter goes, it's a PG260M model. Fits on lots of different vehicles, I just asked for a '95 Chevy truck. The model that was on it was a 10mt (I've got a '73 350). Then you have to get the correct bolts. For mine, I needed bolts w/the 10mm shaft and 3/8" threads. So that was a set of 84-1507 bolts. Went to a starter rebuild shop to get them, couldn't find them in any of the local parts stores, and they looked at me like I was loony when I asked. I wanted to get an AC Delco model, but they were like $400, so I went cheap and got one w/a lifetime warranty from CarQuest. I was told these are crap by a lot of people, but the guy at CarQuest said he has only had one come back in 5 years. So figured I would give it a shot. With my luck, I'll probably be buying an AC Delco one in the future lol. Quote:
Thanks again for all the compliments. I feel bad that I neglect the ol' girl so much.

Re: Here goes Project: PEARL
Update on this thing. Never got her back on the road due to problems here and there, time issues, general laziness, other projects, etc. Never could get her to run right. Turns out I had a bad cam lobe. So out came the 350.
Since I was doing that, and I know I won't be happy unless I do everything the right way, she's getting torn completely down and I'm going to start from square one. My buddy Timbo1 is going to let me take her to his place so I actually have room to work. This thing will probably creep along at a snail's pace, but at least there is movement! ![]() Plan so far is stock-ish exterior and interior, big wheels, mild air suspension, 292 I6 or Gen3/4 swap, and maybe a beastly sound system.

Re: Here goes Project: PEARL
Gathering some parts. This is a 292 that may end up with a turbo attached. Got a factory power steering setup in the deal too!

Re: Here goes Project: PEARL
Well Timbo1 came over today and took the truck to its new temporary home. We made some progress on it and I plan on hitting it again bright and early.

Re: Here goes Project: PEARL
A little more progress today. I can't thank Timbo1 enough for letting me use his facilities and equipment. It makes this process way more efficient and enjoyable compared to working in my crowded garage!
