Re: Honest Abe's Shop Truck build
With the mod I did to mine & drop spindles, you will be able to lay out the crossmember / A-arms on the ground, but that isnt laying frame in the front on these trucks unfortunately

Re: Honest Abe's Shop Truck build
Yea I do know about the cross member. I got one I am fixin to pull outta my dually and section for my truck. I just wasnt sure about the whole cup situation. It did look rather tall for the application but I figured since it was vehicle specific that it should work. But were gonna do something similar to what you did. Maybe add a little creative flair. lol.

Re: Honest Abe's Shop Truck build
ok, cool deal. As Woody stated, I've never done a truck like this, so i'm working/learning as i go. That explains the loop over the diff that someone was asking about. I had initially planned on doing a wishbone 3-link and was going to use that as the center mount of the wishbone... then after locating the axle under the truck and trying to hook up the driveshaft, i noticed there was no slip in the carrier bearing and went to plan B.
after looking at the thread posted, that is a very SMALL obstacle that will be really easy to over come. Plans for sectioning the engine crossmember are already in the works, we're just trying to get the truck rolling for a show at the beginning of october to more/less debut the truck and new shop. so, laying crossmember/control arms won't take much of the shock value out. Then the truck's next appearance will be laying body with a few other goodies in the plans. Can't get any better, right? again, thanks for the comments and helpful hints!! |

Re: Honest Abe's Shop Truck build
Ok, sounds good
One thing I wonder though The way your rear end is set up, it looks as though it would allow any articulation from side to side ??? |

Re: Honest Abe's Shop Truck build
thats what the track bar/diagonal link is for. it holds the suspension itself square. its pretty stout. those pictures of the bridge work with the wood... thats actually over head in case you can't tell.

Re: Honest Abe's Shop Truck build
I wasnt worried about side to side, as I saw the track bar
Im saying that since all your pivot points are made to move vertically that it doesnt leave much room for articulation, such as if you had one bag inflated & the other one dumped The way your system looks to me, is that you would be fine doing FB, but FBSS might bind Example, but in an extreme |

Being ladder bars you dont get much articulation anyways. And I always ride about an inch off the ground and I NEVER pulls "sides". So it doesnt concern me in the least. The truck is built to be super low and ride super smooth and thats what it will do. Its not out to be a show stopper although it will draw quite a bit of attention. Thanks for the interest tho.

Re: Honest Abe's Shop Truck build
yep, i wasn't sure what you were asking. Thats what I thought you were asking then as i read further... I thought you were talking side/side movement. but yeah, minimal articulation in the axle, but its not a goal. My daily driver has a triangulated 4-link with bags on the lower bars and a levered shock setup. It gets MORE then enough articulation and has 8 valves... but i honestly couldn't tell you the last time i hit sides.
thanks for the continued positive comments! |

Re: Honest Abe's Shop Truck build
Again, I dont really know because Im not there
But you do realize that the way you have your pna hard bar, that whatever flex there is in the two bushings for the trailing arms is how much your rear will move side to side, as there is nothing holding it to the frame other than those 2 bushings Cant wait to see it on the ground |

Re: Honest Abe's Shop Truck build
Its not necessarily a "pan hard" but a track locator. It keeps the 2 ladder pars parallel and will not let them sway keeping all 4 corners of the mount at 90degree angles.

Re: Honest Abe's Shop Truck build
he's right... I don't like panhard bars as they will pull the axle one way or another when airing up/down. this is a different way of doing it will still performing the same general function.
Think of it this way... if you were to make a box, with no diagonal links from corner to corner, it will shift from side to side and won't remain square, right? If you take one bar and attach it from one corner to the other, it no longer will shift, it will stay square. right? That is how this setup functions. the 2 front ladder bar mounts and the axle mounts are your out side corners of the "box" and the diagonal link between opposing corners is what keeps it square... or, keeps the axle square under the truck. |
