The only thing the trans does it eat up HP on the dyno, if you take it to the track with an auto or std. you will run the same times and trap speed assuming you get a decent launch in the std. It's also more a combination of a stall that eats up the power. Remember that the two sides of the convertor are rarely ever spinning at the same speed. The engine side is always turning faster unless the convertor is locked up.
