Re: Its a long way to the top, if you want to rock & roll

Hey all, got an update.

Few months back I got the carb rebuilt $200. Then drove it for a few days until I had a few issues that needed attention. Issues like bad tires, bad brakes, engine cuts while driving, and no taillights.

In the last few days I've spent some quality time with my truck.

So here's what I did..

The front tires were cracked and leaking air, I finally took out the chrome rallies and got a pair of 235/60/15 used radials, both tires for $60.

Replaced the master cylinder - stops really good

Removed the mechanical fuel pump - bought replacement part at Autozone $16 ..Come to find out the fittings are metric and the existing fuel line does not match up at all! I also purchased a plastic in line fuel filter I'm going to install before the fuel pump. Any advice for fuel filters?

I'm now on a parts mission to find an oem / standard fuel pump

Lessons learned:
I need my own shop, I really enjoy working on my truck
autozone sells metric SBC fuel pumps
My paint/clear coat is chipping - and she still looks good
(any rust prevention tips?)

Things to do in no particular order:
Rewrire sound system, oem radio w/iPod
Rewrire light system incl. hood turn lights
Rewrire horn
Find rust prevention solution
Get engine rebuilt
Get engine running to put in some transmission stop leak by Lucas, seems that there is a leak.
Get new bench seat or rebuild current seat
Aluminum radiator
Electric fans
Build new front end in my spare time with disc brakes and new bushings etc.
Rebuild headlight bucket so lights sit properly
Replace front bumper with oem, since I ran into a small post

Dont want to overwhelm my self... Lol I can do it

Pics soon!!

Rusty: no idea what kind of wheels they are. Might sell them.

She's up and running very nice. New MC new fuel pump, hands got dirty. Leaks a little oil, putting engine rebuild on hold - will swap to LS1 manual trans in the future. Shifting focus on bushings, disc brakes, and a wood bed. Happy Tuesday!
