It's been awhile and there has been progress so I thought I'd post some pics....well....one pic.

The bed is almost cut out and the new one will be getting installed next week.

The rest is in pretty good shape...little rust on the passenger rocker but the floors have been replace already and are in great shape.

That was a plus.

Wheeeee......we have progress.
Here is a shot of the tub being put on the frame.

Front fenders and doors are not far behind.

I'm not sure what they used to spray the bottom with but it was sprayed with a paintable sound proofing and rust preventative. Including inside the fenders.

Sure looks orange huh ;-)

But, we do have progress and tomorrow we can start getting the wiring done, tilt steering column, interior sound proofing, firewall pad, gauge cluster.....etc.....start getting this rig put back together one piece at a time.

Need exhaust installed, start the motor and get it dyno tuned, burn the chip, get it running, and then get it rolling!

More pics to come.

Are you sure? From the Pic's it almost looks like a slightly faded CHIEFS RED?

LOL, just kidding!! And yes I know the Ciefs are a perenial letdown, thats why I root for the Lions!! And live with a Girl from San Fran/Oakland Area (tRaider fan)!!

Do you have any pics of how you removed the body from the frame, and around the shop? I always like to see how everyone lifts the body off, to give me ideas on how to do mine.

I like that color, too. Have a paint code?

Here's some pictures from today that I took with a camera.
The picture I posted yesterday was taken with my phone camera.

These look more orange.....the color is called "hugger orange" and I can get the code for you if you want but I think you can google it. It was a stock color in 1972.

It's a lot of orange right now but with front and rear MTO custom fabbed bumpers powder coated black, black rock sliders, black roll bar, black gauge cluster, black frame, black axles......I think when it's all bolted together it should look pretty good.....in fact.....I know it will ;-)

I had Evercoat shot on the entire bottom of the tub and fenders, inside all the seams and double coated all overlaps......that should stop it from rusting out in the next 37 years.

I have some pictures on page 1 of this thread of the body being pulled off.

There is a 4x4 shop down the road from my house that does all my work (MTO Suspension and Fabrication) and they are doing all the work on it except for the easy stuff that I can do (like painting the frame, axles ....stuff like that). MTO rocks....nothing those guys can't handle that I have found yet.

They used the lift to pull the body off the frame and Royce's Custom Auto is doing the paint and body work and they used a fork lift with long forks to stick through the windshield and you can see the straps they have bolted to the seat belt mounts. They put the body back on that way.

I'm not sure what the gas cap came off of, he had it so we used it. I wanted to get away from that elbow knocker ;-)

Anyway, here's some more pics.....I'll post more as more progress is made.

We got the replacement floor from LMC, it's from a '72 shortbed and had to be cut to fit.

Blazer is shorter than a shortbed, so we cut the middle out and then welded it back together right over the seat brace.

We are installing a Painless Wiring Harness and it's really not to bad.
We are looking for options on where to install the ECM, any ideas?

I was thinking behind the gauge cluster under the dash maybe?

There isn't enough wire to get to the glove compartment. I was wanting to mount it behind the glove compartment.

Has anyone done this yet?

Installed the tilt column I got from a member here.

If all goes well and the paint shop gets my front clip done, this should be running next week.

Not driving yet....but running.....and that will be a HUGE milestone.

Still misc parts and pieces ....lots of parts and pieces to install but every piece gets it closer.

Yea, that is where I wanted to put it but of all the wire to cut short...those are to short.

I've got enough wire in other places to wire things twice.....

So far that is the only complaint that I have about the Painless Harness.

I would put it where it is best suited, I know it sucks cutting a brand new harness, but you have such a nice Blazer it really should be "right" the first time? An hour with some wire, soldering gun and heat shrink fittings will make it fit wherever it needs to be...by the way if you put it behind the guages it still looks like you are going to end up with one of the nicest K5's I have seen on the site! Good work, and I am trully impressed with the pace you are getting this thing together.

i used the stock harness with my tpi. when i did it i put it all under the seat bottom on the passanger side. I f i needed to get to it i jsut lift the seat up

More progress.....not much....but progress is progress.
Front fenders installed and by now I'm sure the front clip is complete with the hood on it, but I stopped by early this morning to check progress and this is where they were at the time.

It's all exciting to me....If I see progress....I LOVE IT!

Getting closer....should be back at MTO Fabrication and Suspension here in Fort Collins either tomorrow or the next day so they can get the wiring done, mufflers.....and all the stuff it takes to get that 383 stroker cranked up and running....and that will be a HUGE milestone!!

Thought I would dust off this thread with an update.

We have made progress but still lots to do.

Wiring is tedious work....glad I'm not doing it ;-)

Engine compartment is pretty much done except for small stuff like mounting the horn, radiator overflow.....stuff like that.

I'm going to go ahead and install electric fans at this stage of the build and a dual battery setup......just to have that stuff done.

I won't be hard wheeling this thing until the "new" wears off of it but I will be in the hills on trails.....but nothing hard and no scratches.....not yet.

Here is a photo of it coming back from some touch up paint/body work and another one of the engine compartment.

I've installed the weather stripping, all the exterior lights (except front) so it's starting to get that finished look.

Still waiting on the tailgate but hopefully we will have this thing ready to start this week so we can get exhaust installed and take it to the dyno to get it tuned and a chip burnt for it.

I'm thinking FlowMaster 40 series for mufflers.

I don't want it "loud".....but I do like a healthy rumble.....is this the right muffler?

Still have steering wheel to pick out and after we get the exterior and drive train.....it's interior time......
