Re: !!!!5.3 Vortec Swap Started!!!!

Well I can offer some advise I did this swap in my 69' and when I wired it up I plugged the drivers side o2 sensor plugin onto the passenger side o2 sensor and didn't even know I swapped them around! Made it run like crap, miss firing under load and a flashing check engine light. You probably don't have this particular problem but just check your wiring. I'm sure your bosch o2's are fine. Scan the computer for codes and let us know what comes up.

Unplug the O2s, how does it run? this puts it into Open Loop.
Also, I would run your ALDL into the cab of truck rather than under the hood, will make difficult logging if you ever decide to have it tuned properly.
Also, why did you guess at the wiring of the O2s, they are quick connects, was your harness cut up? and make sure you have the FRONT O2s and did not wire them into the REAR O2s.....

I used Bosch direct fit sensors on mine (Bosch #15150) that plug right in, they should be the same for yours. I'm wondering like Shon, was your harness chopped? Is that why you used the universal sensors? I would always go for the direct fits sensors, Bosch or ACDelco.

Re: !!!!5.3 Vortec Swap Started!!!!

Just drove 480 Miles in my new 5.3 swap and it drove great. I have realized now that my suspension is not up to par with the horsepower and torque the new engine puts out. That's the next project. All this and I got 20 mpg!!!! It did drop to around 17 mpg but I was fighting a 25 mph head wind and had my 750 pound Harley Street Glide in the bed of the truck.

I guess because they are NOT quick connects. they are blank/cut wires out of the box with crappy diagrams. however, I did figure out that two if the wires on the drives side were swapped. It s now correced and running like a champ. Thanks for all the help

I only put it under the hood so I could drive it to Texas. I'm being transfered and had to get it together in a short minute. to drive it there. I als have a 1964 impala, 1962 Bel Air, 2 harleys, and a f-150. All This and moving. The military will only pay to move one car.

The rear O2 sensor wiring was removed from the harness completely, therefore they were not connected to the rear ones. the drives side was miss wired by myself. It has been fixed. Thanks for the help.

I would have went for direct fits, however, they are TWICE the cost as the univeral Bosch ones. I can't see paying that much just to have a connector on the other end. My harness was fine. It was just the cost factor. Thank you for the advice

I'm running 3.72's in my 12 bolt rearend. and it runs fine. fairly stout in the low end and great highway cruising. Definatly not drag raceing ratio by any means. but great for everyday drivers.
