Re: 305 V-6 with dual Strombergs

"Different" is freakin cool!

Have you checked how everthing matches up? Are you going to need to do any porting and polishing so that it all matches up?

Old hot rodder that I am kin too use to double stack spacers under the carb and put a wire mesh in betwixt the 2 spacers to atomize the fuel.

Well, I'm pretty much learning as I go here......This will be my first dual carb set-up and, as far as i can read, it is the first time most anybody has seen dual carbs on a big block V-6.

I know that I definitely have room to port the vintage speed manifold to match the factory V-6 manifold, I don't think I will just yet because it's not like I'm trying to gain a 10th down the track ya know? So I figure just get 'er all bolted up and running before the car shows this summer and then when I pull the whole engine this winter, I'll match everything up nice and pretty.

Have you decided on breathers yet?

That's awesome! I'm hoping to gain a little torque.....I know this particular engine's peak torque is between 1200-1800 RPM's, and a factory 305 had about 250 LB FT. Maybe I'll even gain a little HP too since she only has 125.

When I pull the whole engine, I want to have a custom grind put on the cam so she gets a little thump, thump too!

What do you think about this one 4d? I already know the set-up is going to be too tall to keep under the hood, even without the spacer, so I have a picture in my head that has this breather sticking just a little out of the hood, almost like a shaker....

Chop the bottom of the T-manifold's flange off and weld on the adapter's intake flange?

Re: 305 V-6 with dual Strombergs

Cort, I was looking at your set-up and its overall hite issue...my first thought was 90* it over. Will the carbs work that way? Kinda like VW set-up or something along those lines. Im sure you have plenty of room side-to-side under that hood.

There is a member here who does CNC work, I think it's Mr. Beast, give him a PM if your looking at some custom work.

Re: 305 V-6 with dual Strombergs

I know, I know. I had to switch projects and get my Nova on the road for a daily driver and she has been taking up all my time with the "little" stuff. Also I have been overhauling two Caterpillar 3608's at work and they also have been taking up my time. I am going to redo the brakes tomorrow and then I have a car show on saturday. Hopefully I can get started on the carb set-up sunday, still looking for a hood close to me though.....

Re: 305 V-6 with dual Strombergs

OK, some new pics with the air filters. I hope to put the new set-up on tomorrow. This weekend I am going to look at a '62 GMC Suburban that still has the V-6 and GMC hood. If I buy it, I am going to use that hood to cut so I don't have to cut my original......

Re: 305 V-6 with dual Strombergs

Now I need your guys opinions....Should I cut to seperate holes for each air filter or should I cut one oval in the hood for both? I'm thinking about only 1" of the air filter will stick through the hood, which I think might look pretty sick...

Re: 305 V-6 with dual Strombergs

Find an old Ford super duty hood scoop. Pontiac used them on the early Lemans drag cars. They look good and won't show that you molested a stock hood! The scoops came on late 50's early 60's medium duty trucks. Like the picture included. I would think up in Oregon you would not want the air filters exposed to the weather.

I'm liking the Furd scoop, too. It's too bad you have to cut your hood. I freakin love your truck.

what I said!!
btw 62 gmc hood is different... your style is 60-61.
I would snoop around on some pontiac websites about that scoop... they used it on the superduty ponchos, and GM even gave it a GM part #.

Re: 305 V-6 with dual Strombergs

why don't you do a road trip this summer?
take the hood off your truck, come up to our car show at the end of july, and then we can run over to kelleys in arlee, he has about 10 of them....and you can drive it home!
we are only 8-10 hours away....

PS: PM kdrodworks316.... he had one of those in good shape last year, he is an over the road trucker, he might be able to get it close to mid/eastern wa. for you.....

Re: 305 V-6 with dual Strombergs

There is a big one in polson.. cruisin by the bay or something like that, might be in august. there is a relativly fun one put on by the missoula downtown assoc. at the end of june.. 23/4th? friday night they shut down the downtown for cruising only for 2 hours.
most of them should be listed in that northwest cruisin' magazine, if you can find one.
