Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
There's no shocks or panard bar in yet and I can bounce that sucker let me tell ya; no binding or blockages.
Yes, all 2wd Blazers?Jimmys are coil sprung from factory. There's no speaker grill in the dash either.....

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
Maybe it just isn't seated down in the spring pocket/cup? Or just needs to settle once it gets on the road. Is the tank already in? Is it filled up? I imagine the seats/interior panels add a good amount as well as the top so that will bring it down more too...

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
Got some body mock up done; no hood gap on either side at all-yet. And a couple shots of what a 40 mph wind does to a roof on saw horses outside; anything can be fixed though, right?

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
I did the underside with a product called Gator Liner, it's a boxliner and can be applied as smooth or rough as you want it to be.

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
Got a little more done(worth pics anyway), cut the braces out that were welded from the b-pillar to the dash now that the body is bolted down; door gaps stayed true(sweet). Finished the fuel door, trimmed/indexed and welded the filler pipe made from the original fitted with a billet screw in cap and had a local HVAC shop bend a box to hide it(got change back from a $20 bill!). Next step is to modify the '68 hood for the '72 front clip.

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
Well I got a few hours in on it today; rear shocks/adj.panard rod in and some hood work. I want to retain the '72 inner lip on the '68 hood.....so I did.

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
Well I managed to spend some needed time on the little fella; decided that if every other nook and cranny is worked over I may as well re-skin the doors and make sure nothing creepy happens in the near future.

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
I've commited to colors as well; Lambergeeny(lol) Orange Nacre and a Subaroo grey for the int as it will have grey vinyls etc. The orange is a "tri-coat", for those that don't know, this means 2 colors and clear. In this case first color after sealers etc. is a muddy beige color followed by layers of a transperant orange/gold pearl; the more coats of orange the darker and richer the final color. Unfortunatly it's hard to determine the final shade until it's cleared! I've sprayed this color on customer cars/bikes before @ 3 coats orange, I want to be a lttle different so I'm @ 5 coats orange and will have to wait to see the change in hue.

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
I wish I had the time you think I have! It KILLS me to see this thing sit between labour bursts! I also hate having to paint the jams first; I like painting in pieces then assembling but with this color I'm concerned about variation if it's not all shot at once.

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
I would have to agree with you on the variation for the colors, it kills me to do it that way also.

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
I've still got what seems like everything left to do before final paint; haven't had the top on yet and need to 'glass it back together first! Engine is just an assembled rotating assy that I want in and running as well, I'm tired of pushing this turkey around myself! I hate to say it, but married life over dating forever would free up some time for the good stuff!( I didn't say that) All this aside, I want to drive this by july!

Re: Latest Obsession; 1972 2WD Blazer.
The blazer is coming along very nicely and is looking good! I hope to see you driving it by July! If not I will understand, I was shooting to drive mine by October but that is starting to look unrealistic.

Interesting Hood Mod...I like it.
I like the color also - should look great in the sunlight. Do you have any pix of that color [or similar] in the light? |
