Re: What is your favorite performance muffler?
I have dual Magnaflows with an x pipe and 2 1/4 pipe. They are quiet at idle and will really bark when you put your foot in it.

Re: What is your favorite performance muffler?
I like my 40's and they of course would sound better with headers and a crossover (like my old old truck) but there are too many trucks with Flowmasters in my area in my opinion. Kind of ruins it for me. I'm trying to save some dough for some Borla xr-1's $$$$. They have a way different sound than almost anything. Kind of exotic

Re: What is your favorite performance muffler?
Hooker Aerochamber.
There's 'different' for you. I had a Flowmaster 40 on a '01 Silverado 5.3, it was okay but the interior drone got to me. Moved to the Aerochamber, which looked pretty much wide-open inside. Surprisingly, it was about as loud as the Flowmaster, maybe a touch quieter... but the interior resonance was a *lot* better. I fell in love with the muffler immediately. Unfortunately, they're solid steel, and the black paint tends to flake off around the welds .. and then they get rusty, and look ugly. Had Flowmaster, too common a sound. I don't want to sound like every other Mustang on the road. I got one on the S-10, and with a 3" intermediate pipe it sounds really good, actually. Had a Magnaflow on my Trans Am. Completely, totally too f-ing loud. Magnaflow on my Avalanche, now. Much quieter, but got the same resonance problem, and it gives the 5.3 that typical drone that makes it sound almost like a 6 cylinder at times. Sounds good at WOT though. Fell in love with the Dynomax Super Turbo on my Caprice. Very quiet at idle, no drone on the highway at all, and a nice rumble when you get into it. Just slightly louder than a stock muffler. These are the only turbos I'll buy. Despite the fact that the one I put on my Astro sounds like sh*t. 4.3 V6's just seem to sound good with Flowmasters only... <shrug>

Re: What is your favorite performance muffler?
Hah! I've got a JVC with a 12 disc changer in my truck; it was there when I got it. I have *never* turned it on yet, don't even know if it works!
Windows down, exhaust howling! On the other hand, I'd never do that with a daily driver. I drove my '67 Chevy with rotted out glasspacks down from Michigan to NC, sounded totally unbelievable in the tunnels! Loved it. I drove my daily driver '79 Monte Carlo with glasspacks on the same trip. When I got home, I gutted the entire exhaust and put turbos on it. Sometimes you get too much of a good thing.

Re: What is your favorite performance muffler?
I like flowmaster 40 on a v8, the 50 series sound good too, they are a little less raspy and quiter than the 40's (wife's mustang has a 50 because she doesn't like the raspy sound of the 40's). Right now my truck is straight headers only but once I get it on the road it's gonna have 40's or 44's (anyone have sound clip of 40's or 44's on a 350?). I also like the short magnaflows, they are a little deeper and sound good on a v6 (I have a 14" long magnaflow with the resonator removed on my v6 explorer and it sounds good and is fairly loud).
