Re: 1954 Monster 4X4 Shop Truck "Crush"
I think it would be a cool tribute to "Crash" if you put his name somewhere on the truck. I was thinking if you built a headache rack or something on the front side of the flat bed to possibly paint his name on there so everyone behind you can see his name. Or you could possibly cut each of the letters in his name out of some flat sheet metal and weld them onto the headache rack and Line-X over the top of them. That would look pretty cool.

Re: 1954 Monster 4X4 Shop Truck "Crush"
Well you lucked out both ways then. A cool Mom (out cheering you on in the street) and a pretty wife.
I hope you put enough weight on the truck to settle those springs some. They are gonna ride rough without some serious weight on them. Another engine to consider would be a 4BT Cummins. They can be made to produce some pretty good power and have multiple transmission selections. Some older delivery vans had 400 Turbos behind the 4BT. I think an inline engine would fit the style of the old truck, plus you can set it back closer to the firewall if you want. |

1954 Monster 4X4 Shop Truck "Crash"
I just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone who has responded and subscribed to my thread...
I really like the idea of an in-line diesel, which like you said, will help keep the overall look original... The idea about putting "Crash's" name on the truck has definitely been a thought, and I like the idea of putting it in the headache rack... Keep the ideas coming! |

Cool build. Your axles appear to be a Dana 44 front and a semifloat 14 bolt not a Dana 60 and dana 70.

Re: 1954 Monster 4X4 Shop Truck "Crush"
this build is amazing and I am looking forward to see more of your "skills"
I've been thinking about doing a similar build in a few years after I finish up couple of my current projects now that I have a shop almost built and almost ready for use...

1954 Monster 4X4 Shop Truck "Crash"
Okay... My eyes have shifted... The donor has arrived!
Project "Crash" is back online... Stay Tuned!!! I bought a 1987 GMC 1 ton 4X4 truck. It has a 6.2 Diesel, a rebuilt 400 Turbo Trans, 205 Transfer Case, Hydoboost brake master cylinder, and a bunch of other cool stuff... Now, after everyones feed back, I really wanted to use a cummins, but I can always go back and change my setup down the road. Money is tight, and I just want to get "Crash" on the road... This Donor truck is in extremely good condition, and runs super strong... The best part is that I got it for practically nothing... Some of you may have seen this truck on Craig's list, because I was also trying to turn a quick buck on it... After talking to my neighbor, I have decided to go ahead and strip this beast down... For about $1500.00 I can get a brand new "Banks" turbo kit, and I may just fab up my own set up... Here are the photos of my donor: Last edited by N2TRUX; 10-06-2009 at 10:26 AM. |

That donor is a monster in itself. I would just roll that! Is it running as of this moment?

1954 Monster 4X4 Shop Truck "Crash"
Yep, this truck runs super strong... I had thought about just keeping it as is (Donor), but "Crash" needs to feel the wind in her grill!
*A quick note on site rules: I'm not trying to sell parts off of this Thread I may have mentioned that I am parting it out, but it was only to share with other members my intentions... My parts will be listed on another site... I'd mention the site, but I don't want to step on anyones feet... |
