No, I figured that was more for stiffening the shock crossmember. If you are concerned about about it you could just box that section of frame.

Also forgot to mention that if you need any parts to complete your swap the junk yard here in Oroville (oroville self serve) has plenty of these trucks around.

DUDE!!! I went to that wrecking yar it was so awesome i got totaly soaked just looking around... got sick as hell from being outhgere in the rain.. but it was well worth it. you keepin your truck an 8 lugger?

did you find what you needed out there? I haven't been over there in about a month but they usually have a pretty good selection of our trucks. Last time I went there were about 3 c10's, 3 c20's, a blazer, and a c30 motorhome

Wow it's been quite a while since I've updated this. I've been busy all summer and haven't got much done to the truck other than cutting the front of the bed down and tacking it back together so I could put it back on to do some hauling. I have pictures of everything so I'll get them posted up soon. So far I've hauled as much as 3000 pounds in the bed and thr frame is holding up great.

Thanks! I'm not sure on the brand of the bags, I bought them from airbagit.com in their amazon.com storefront. They are a 2600 pound bag (7") similar to a slam specialties re7. I think I paid $125 shipped for the set of 4. I have already shortened the front of the box, now I just need to get the back done. I'll get some updated pics up soon.

Well this thread has been long overdue for an update so here is some of the progress that has been made since then. I entered the truck in the under construction class at the Gold Rush Car Show, so I went to the cruise-in and the show had a good time and met some cool people including a few board members. Here are a few pics:

Then after the show I cruised the truck as is bedless for a while, it was fun driving without it because it was so light that I could spin the tires anytime I wanted up to about 50 MPH. Then I needed to put my truck back to work so I needed to get the bed back on. The easiest way to get the bed back on the truck was just to shorten the front section so that the wheel tubs would line up with the tires and deal with the rear section later. After looking through all the threads on here I decided to shorten the front in a similar fashion to how LFD did it (you can read his thread Here). There are pros and cons to each method of going about this, but I chose this route because it allowed me to get rid of the gas door that is no longer necessary. So here goes the pics...

First I had to get the bed where I could work on it, this is how I did it by myself without a hoist:

After I rolled it on the truck

Back to where I wanted to work on it

Ready to get to work

First I had to measure and mark the bed

So the bed is cut in two, but now I need to get out the scrap sections. Here it is after a little more cutting:

After I cut the bed floor 12" shorter with a skill saw I did a test fitting and this is how it looked:

I was happy with how it lined up, so I decided to use the scrap pieces to practice my welding. Here is what the test welds looked like

nice! good idea on getting rid of the saddle holes. too bad you didnt get that little dent out of the bed above the cuts on the driverside while it was still unwelded to the rest of the bed.

Thanks! Yeah, I should have gotten the dent out before welding because it would have been easier to fix then, but also because the dent threw off how the seam between the two pieces lined up. Oh well, live and learn...
