Re: First Timers Build/Super Stock 70 Step
Not yet Shannon, I'm going to be pulling the motor this weekend as long as the guy still has it. I called him today and he didt return my call. SO if all goes well this weekend i should be up and running for the Chewing fat get together.
If its not i will still be there!!

Re: First Timers Build/Super Stock 70 Step
Ok the motor finally showed up! i was suppose to get the motor saturday but things came up. So the motor was delivered to me today at work. Not quite what i was expecting. PO said that they were double hump heads, well the dbl humps are suppose to look like a dog bone from what i have seen and been told. These look like pyramids. The carb and distr. are worth what i paid for the motor. Here are some pics of it, i plan on putting it in Saturday. I still have to get headers, oil and water temp gauge stuff and a different fuel pump . not sure about the bosch plugs. lemme know whatca think
i will put on some after photos and maybe a video if i can get it to work

Re: First Timers Build/Super Stock 70 Step
i dont have the casting numbers on the heads i didnt want to take the valve covers off, but this is what i found when i did a search.......
. 624 (double triangle)-Originally used on '71-'72 LT-1, '71-'74 Z/28, and '73-'79 L-82 engines (with 9:1 compression ratio), this head has 76cc combustion chambers and is in essence a high-performance smog head. It was also available as a service replacement for high-performance, low-compression engines. part number 464045 was supplied with 31/48-inch screw-in studs and is machined for 2.02/1.60-inch valves. This casting isn't a lightweight type, but weight reduction was incorporated in its design. ---- now i really need to get this thing running.

Re: First Timers Build/Super Stock 70 Step
Hey Alan, not 100% sure but i believe its a 750cfm Holley. i went to summit today ordered the headers they didnt have them in stock *bummer*. i picked up pig tail for HEi, oil, filter, alt brackets, plug wires, a different fuel pump with no return, I'm hoping that the z bracket for the cluth will not give me to much problems.

Re: First Timers Build/Super Stock 70 Step
Two days, two motors. The 250 came out of the truck with no problems. Started around 1pm and it was out by 5pm. Inspected the clutch, guess what..... needs a new one the old one was almost down to the rivets. So this morning i ran over to the parts store and grab a new clutch kit. The motor mounts would have worked but one was broken. 7 bucks a piece in stock at O'reilys. While the V8 was laying out we went ahead and bolted on the starter, transmission. i need a different fuel pump with out the return vent line. The new motor and tranny went in with no major problems. Didnt even break a plug. Started pluged up, fuel line connected. All ready to crank!!!! No exhuast..... they should be here tomorrow. But the drivers side is going to be cramped for space. I need to locate a z bar mount for the V8. The old one will not work. I should be able to find one at the pull a part or on the sale board. Here is a crappy cell phone photo. Oh i also need to get some pulleys and brackets!

i did stand in front of the motor with my feet on the ground to hook up the starter and the fuel lines. there is enough from for a few, well lets just say there is a ton of room in the front now.

Re: First Timers Build/Super Stock 70 Step
I laid down some paint today on the cowl, i sanded it a while back and it has been primed and ready for paint. I was originally going to go with the stock green. But after i decieded to put the new motor in, the custom bug kicked in! This will be the only 67-72 chevy i plan on doing so why not go all out right!
Well here it is, its called Blue Ribbon. Its a blue metallic with xr17 (i think) metallic flake. Its a toyota color and it looks sharp in the sun!

Re: First Timers Build/Super Stock 70 Step
You painted that? No really? J/K it looks great. I thought you didn't have any paint experience. If the custom bug has bit you, you know there is not a cure for it yet, but the checkbook can delay the effects.
That's a pretty good one liner if I say so myself.
