Well it's been a while but finally got through the Holidays and back to work on the truck. Power steering, brake lines, fuel tank and new drums in the rear. Ready for the motor and tranny now.

great looking build man what exactky did you use to clean and paint the frame? Im working on cleaning the frame on my 66 and some of this grime just wont budge . i was thinging of just using rustoleum spray paint on the frame but yours looks so clean also could you pm me info on where you got your notch ie. part number and price.

Lots of oven cleaner and simple green with a power washer. Then I hit the real stubborn parts with a wire wheel. Painted with the KBS chassis coat kit. Pretty happy with how it tunred out. It's not show quality by any means but looks great for a driver and was cheap and easy.

The C-notch is from CPP.

Well the project is back on track! If you hadn't heard my body turned out to be garbage after it came back from the blasters which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. As I bought a complete body worked and painted roller off of eBay. Well it showed up today and I am super pumped. A Blueprint 383 and a th350 are on the way from Jegs. Then I will be able to marry up this body and my frame and start working all of the details.

Thanks guys cant wait to hear this thing run. It a Blueprint budget stomper 383. I picked it up from Jegs. Rated at 420/450, so was pleasently suprised to see a few extra ponies on the dyno sheet.

Finally found the perfect header!! After trying 2 different sets I was about to order my 3rd to try when my latest issue of Custom Classic Trucks arrived... To my surprise they were doing a tech article, putting an exhaust in the "Get Shorty" project. They used a set of Doug's Tri-Y headers and claimed they fit great. I said what they hell I might as well give them a try...

These headers fit almost perfect! Just a little trimming on the pass side rail and they dropped right in. Even better they are true longtubes and don’t hang below the rails but a fraction of an inch. They are a bit pricey at $605 but well worth it for their fit, coating and longtube design. They are Dougs D375Y.

Man what a relief to finally have these in and move on to the next part of the build!

Did you move the new motor mounts up one hole and drill a new hole for the foward bolt? If so how do you like the fit for the dizzy clearance. Also with the 700r will the drive shaft have to be re-sized in lenght with the motor mounts moved fwd? Love your build and looking good you will be on the road in no time...

Good lookin' build. I'm also looking forward to the answers for the questions apachedaddy posted, kinda looks like the motor mounts were moved forward a hole. It'll be interesting to see how everything else works out and fits if that is the case. Good stuff.

I did move them up a hole, but I did not have to drill any new holes. The clearence is great all the way around.

I knew from the get go I was not going to use the original drive shaft (it was the smaller 2 piece shaft) so I sold it. I am going to have one made. The original shaft would probably need to be shortened. If my memory serves correctly, even with the motor moved up the 700 is still longer than the 3-speed.
