CPP supplied Western Chassis 2.5" spindles
1 coil removed from front springs
Western Chassis rear flip kit (8-leaf spring pack for full 6" drop)
SensaTrac shocks
15x6.5" van ralleys w/215-70-15's
15x8.0" truck ralleys w/255-70-15's


We had to grind the outer edge of the upper BJ pad on the spindles as they interfered w/the upper a-arm lip. I've never come across this issue on WC spindles so it was a first. Nothing a few passes w/a solid grinding wheel couldn't take care of quickly....

The rear has the OE bump-stops removed & the brackets trimmed as short as possible for now. Jon has the c-sections but we opted to install them @ a later date when he can have more time to detail the chassis while the bed is off.

We also trimmed the a-arm lips to allow future installation of some big diameter hoops (w/more back-spacing) should Jon decide to go that route. I vote Vintecs Jon.... they look just like the Halibrands .

Scoti is right on. We had talked a while back, and he had given me some suggestions to get the stance I was looking for. He hit the nail on the head, all the way down to the tire sizes. Our trucks have a lot of similar drop components, his is 2" lower than mine front and rear. I have a 2.5" spindle and 1 coil cut, to his 3" and more cut off of the coil, and mine is just flipped, where his has a flip and shackles. The pictures make mine look more than 2" higher, but the tape said differently. His truck really has a great vibe to it in person. The first time I saw it, I knew that is what I wanted (well, maybe not quite that low.....yet). I did buy the shackles too, just in case. This is my "training" drop, I guess. I am really pleased with the way it turned out. I was second guessing my choice of the rallys, but the drop really pulled it together. I have a feeling my car is going to be sitting still a lot more now.

Trevino, I will probably be driving my truck most of the week. Stop by anytime.

Scoti, I vote Vintecs, too. But maybe later. My mind was already turning about all of the other stuff I can find to do until then. Who knows what might happen. We need to find a way to stop your oil leak, now. I'm ready to throw down on your red truck!

I'm just doing my part to help spend that 'commission check' so that it doesn't age. I can help w/the big tire/wheel sizes too .

I just got it back from the alignemnt rack. The tech said he was able to recenter the steering box, and that netted more adjustment to the left. Unfortunately, they were out of gren ink, but everything shows to be in spec. The alignment shop isn't real far away, but I will check it out on the way home.

Just don't put too many miles on it w/the 'driveway' alignment.....

I didn't quite make it home last night. I got teh truck back from alignment, and one of my techs was swapping an axle in a newer Silverado. Since he had the drain pan out, I asked him to go ahead and change the diff fluid on mine, too. One thing lead to another, now the bed is almost off, inspection cover painted, and C-notches laid out ready for installation. One question, though. What would lead to air bubbles in the rear axle? I don't have a vent hooked up (yet), but there were a lot of air bubbles when we pulled the cover off. If you touched them, you could see them pop, almost like a foam. On the brighter side, I have 3.40 rear gears. perfect!

The rebuild on my '73 started similarly to this. I brought it in to replace the right side rocker, and patch the floor. We were a little slow, so I fugured we could probably knock it tight out. That led to almost a frame off (the cab stayed on) rebuild, and a complete color change with a lot of NOS sheetmetal. I don't think I will let this one get that out of hand. Here is a pic of the '73 getting prepped for paint.

Did you drive it any after the alignment? Did the 'heavy' steering feeling get corrected w/the 'proper' alignment?

The steering did seem a little lighter just cruising around the parking lot, and getting it back to the shop. I am really looking forward to getting it back out on the road again. Here is a pic with the bed off, hopefully I can get the C-notches in and the frame painted today, or tomorrow. My real job keeps getting in the way.
