yeah, barely. The carb is way out of whack, but it does move under its own power. I am going to pull the carb and intake off and replace it with a 4bbl.

Re: pls post pixs of 67-72 Panels
Yup, its pretty tuff! Looks like its been "fixed" before with some fiberglass. Lots of rust. I havent done much to it, just swapped the front suspension to the 71 disc brakes and 5 bolt wheels. Thats about it. its in a long line of projects. I'm still waiting for my money tree to bloom too.
Now that you mention it Sublvr I dont think I've seen any GMC panels either. I should check the vin and make sure it is.

Re: pls post pixs of 67-72 Panels
wow, interesting build on that panel. What was it to begin with? It's got pickup doors on it, was it originally a shortbed?

Re: pls post pixs of 67-72 Panels
Thanks Sublvr72,and as far as the sub parts go,yes, a good part of the upper rear is burb, but it is set down over the shortened pick up bed. The truck has a stock shortbed wheel base now. My build pics were taken before I got a digital camera, but Im going to try and scan some of them so I can post a couple, its easier to understand how it all fits together in the pictures.

Re: pls post pixs of 67-72 Panels
Man, I go away for a couple of days of work and all sorts of cool panels show up! This thread is getting pretty awesome.
panelguy-wow that is some project you got on your hands. I think there is one other gmc panel on this thread 'round post #12 a tough looking blue one. But yours may win a contest for the toughest beginnings. Sublvr, yours has cleaned up pretty good but there is some work lurking under that fiberglass eh?! And jgb7038-holy cow man that panel is frigg'n awesome nice job! Love the short panel look and like the guys are saying looks like a lot of work went into it and it came out great! thanks for posting and I'd be happy to see more from the scanned build pics. |

Re: pls post pixs of 67-72 Panels
jgb's Panel is very cool! Nicely done, IMO.
I've always kinda wondered what one would look like with truck doors-that kind of fabbing would be way above my skill lever-but I think it would be cool to do that, and then shave the drip rail from the door back, and add just a little drip rail to follow the curve of the rear of the door, down maybe 4 or 6 inches or so. Here's another picture of my '68

Really, I searched for a long time to find one that didn't need a bunch of stuff that was over my head. It showed very little rust, but I found a lot more 'upon further review'. Mostly the rockers, of course, but up the kick panels some and the supports under the floor at the front of the cab. And the dash. It's shot, all rusted out along the bottom of the windshield, but I have a perfect replacement for it that came out of a parts 'Burb that I took out just for the practice of taking it out. So that's good. The main thing is-I know myself and if I would have tried to do it a piece at a time while keeping it in one piece I would have never gotten anywhere. Now there is a clear direction and wanting it back on the road is my motavation. Another thing, it had been wrecked at one time on the right front and I wanted to be sure in my mind that the frame was straight. It is, but the hit it took seems pretty hard. The fender has a lot of bondo and the grill is a little tweeked, but I think the spindle was replaced. The one that was on it just seems a little different, and the drum rivits had been cut off, but the driver's side still had the drum rivited to the spindle.

Re: pls post pixs of 67-72 Panels
DakotaSpeed, nice looking panel, it looks really sharp. Do you have any inside pics?
Pritch, well good score and good thinking on your limitations. I guess there are always surprises no matter what eh? Sometimes it seemed like I was some sort of forensic scientist/mechanic while working on mine trying to see what someone else was thinking or had done. Keep at 'er!! |

Re: pls post pixs of 67-72 Panels
Hey Sublvr72 Whats that on top of the roof in those pics? It looks like a pop up vent. Is that factory or a "california custom". By the way is that the original chevy 507 med Blue paint? I found out that was my trucks original color and I believe that is what I want to return it to. But Krylon white keeps the michigan rust off. Good luck guys and Nice lookin trucks....
